So, the truth of it is, Barnaby MacDuff is out of commission for the week. I won't to go into it, yes he's fine, but let's leave that out of this.
The point is, this week is a Peter Pan week over here.
Any mother will tell you that the first thing you do when you have been temporarily relieved of one of your children is you start noticing all the things that have somehow gone wrong with the kids remaining. For instance. Peter Pan's nails have somehow grown so long that they tap on the hardwoods. When did that happen? I wondered as I dialed his Vet to make an appointment. I do not cut The Pan's nails myself because I do not wish death, and also because it takes three fully grown adults to do the job and I barely qualify as one (height joke).
While on the phone I discovered that Pete is also in need of an update to his Distemper shot. Distemper! Please, I would like a Distemper shot for myself. Just ask my husband. He'll tell you.

"Well, would you like to go for a ride in the car?" I asked Pete. He sat up straight and made a bee-line for the door. Car rides are an earthly dream come true when you are a Pan The Man.
When we pulled into the Vet he was just beside himself with glee. I will never understand the inner workings of a dog's brain. Things never go pleasantly for him at the Vet and yet he is always thrilled to go there.

In the lobby we harassed a fat orange cat. Pete loves kitty-kitties. He does not want to chase them or bark at them, he wants to sniff them, kiss them, and then probably spoon with them. Such a sweet boy. One time a patient kitty-kitty let him get close enough for a kiss on the nose. Afterward his ears bounced higher than ever. The stuff of dreams, Pete!
While we were there we discovered that in the last twelve months the fatty has gained seven pounds. Good heavens.
Then I groomed him and bathed him and took his lard butt for a run. Faster, Petey!
The end.
The end.
First of all, your new design is adorable beyond words! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I know how Pete feels right now. I'm the oldest of two (I have a brother who is 3 years younger). 2 summers ago, the summer before I went away to college, he went on a 2-week-long trip to Pocatello, Idaho for a choir trip and I was in total BLISS for those 2 weeks. But my mom, she seemed to find 8 million things wrong with me in that time. I'm too skinny, I don't have enough friends, I'm too pale, yada-yada-yada. Needless to say, the bliss feeling wore off, and I was glad to have my stinky teenage brother around to absorb all the attention around here.
P.S. - Whatever's up with Barney, send him a get-well hug from me!
Beautiful redesign! Hope B is OK and P is enjoying all the attention.
ReplyDeleteYour dog's toenails are (shamefully) like my baby's toenails. They just grow OVERNIGHT, I swear it. And I can only clip them when he is asleep, but when he's asleep, I don't want to wake him. So before you know it - BAM! Monster toes. Tis a quandry.
ReplyDelete(I'm just going to pretend like you picked that header because I liked it best.) (Because it's ALL. ABOUT. ME.) (AS EVER.)
(I really love it.)
I want pics of that fat orange cat.
ReplyDeletePeter Pan looks so snuggly. He simply is adorable. Also is that diet coke I see attempting to make an entrance into your photograph? You, JMakin, and Screwed Up Texan just may very well be running on caffeine and not oxygenated blood.
ReplyDeleteLove the new digs- very cute! :)
ReplyDeleteOh Peter Pan, I just want to snuggle with you on the couch there (sans crazy toenails, that is). He looks like he's really enjoying the space, and the absence of that crazy little brother of his. Hopefully the crazy little bro is okay though.
ReplyDeleteAnd the new design? Fab-fab-fabulous! Two very enthusiastic thumbs up! :)
The new layout is fab!
ReplyDeleteI love stories about Pete, this has made me smile for the rest of the day =)
Nat-the new design is perfect! Very cute. Peter Pan may be loving the attention now, but I am sure he will be overcome with joy when Barnaby returns!
ReplyDeletewoot woo. love the new look.
ReplyDeletegreat post, i just love those dogs of yours.
Nice design! The rat is even sufficiently fat (even if you aren't :D). I especially like that it isn't OVER-designed. Kudos to your html guru.
ReplyDeleteLove love love your new design!
ReplyDeleteThe new design is perfection. Seriously, so perfect. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love the new design...kudos!
ReplyDeleteLove the new design! Lots!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Peter Pan is semi-camoflaged laying on that faux fur throw! Ha ha!
It is always hard to keep up with someone else's grooming. I mean, it takes enough to keep my own self up to snuff... and now I have a daughter (9 months) whom I am expected to keep track of too?! Lots of nails to clip and hairs to brush!
Lovely design! Looks great. And today was a dog story. I love your dog stories. Great day to be reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteLove the new design! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am so stealing your button right now. Pan the Man is adorable. Especially after a manicure.
ReplyDeleteI was saddened when I heard that your blog was gonna get a makeover, because I love simplicity (just look at my blog for proof). But you know what? I like your made-over blog, I really do. Because it's still simple, with just a touch of flare. Nice, nice.
ReplyDeleteI miss Barnaby. But I kinda really like Pete a lot too. You're a good mama for taking your fat kid for a run; obesity is a growing epidemic, after all...
wasnt the adventures of pete and pete a really old nick show? i kinda remember watching it years ago... anyway, pete is adorable!
ReplyDeleteoh, and i love the new layout, but kinda think the ads should be pushed down to under your about me and contact info and stuff. but thats just me.
Doesn't everyone enjoy being an only child....at least for a while...Hope Barney is home soon...
ReplyDeleteThe new design caught me by surprise and... I'm jealous. It's incredibly cute! As for Pete, his gleeful attitude at the Vet's office is just like our Lakota's. How funny! You'd think eventually they'd catch on.
ReplyDeleteI love the new design, it seems very you! But I agree with Sarah, your ads need to be pushed below your About Me stuff. (They're supremely distracting.) I've never had a dog (more of a kitty person), so I don't know about the joys and woes, but I like your dogs. And I don't mind pretending sometimes that they're mine. It's much cleaner this way, you see. :)
ReplyDeleteNatalie, Reading Chess' comment I measured for you. If you put your About Me above your BlogHer ads you'd be pushing them to below the 768px--above the fold--requirement and they'd get pissed off.
ReplyDeleteHope he doesn't get a marshmallow stuck up his nose. (if you get that - you rock). :)
ReplyDeletePerhaps I could borrow The Pan so my husband has a fellow spooner. Heaven knows I'd rather fall right to sleep. Love the new design!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE the new design!!
ReplyDeletenew page looks nice Nat! And as for Petey....my poor boy chubs' nails are clickety clacking all over my hard wood floors and it's starting to be like he's ice skating around on them...i really must sit down and assess this situation, as opposed to writing about it on other people's blogs, but *crinkles nose/forehead*....I got a lot going on right now...and claws seem not nearly as scary as my own personal hell right now...so Chubs, if you're reading this, i luv you buddy...but the toes are going to have to wait a minute!

~hl~
I like the new design. It feels clean but not stark.
ReplyDeleteLive it up while you can, Pan! And hopefully, we'll see the B-Man soon.
I love the new design! I always wanted to be an only child and I was for 8 years then my sister came. Live it up Petey! live it up.
ReplyDeleteI like your new design! As the big scratch down my leg seems to indicate, I think my dog Holly needs her nails trimmed too. Peter Pan looks so incredibly adorable, snoozing on the couch!
ReplyDeleteLove the new design!!
ReplyDeleteMy Beezasaurus- Rex pup has had many a conniption while having his nails trimmed.
LOVE the new design! Just in time for the start of Spring!
ReplyDeleteLove the new design, and I totally know what you mean with Pete at the vets. My female Chihuahua SCREAMS like she's getting her arms cut off when she is getting her nails cut at the vet. Even though I feel horrible afterwards, I can't stop laughing everytime she does it. It's too funny, but since I don't want her to hate me, I now have to leave the room so she doesn't associate me with getting her nails trimmed, lol.
ReplyDeleteThrowing my hat in the ring of those who LOVE the new design! : ) Happy thoughts to the B & glad the pan is all groomied now!
ReplyDeleteaw, I love that pic of him!
ReplyDeletehey, super cute header!! LOve the new look. you should do mine...eh eh?? I know you wanna. haha.
love the new design!
ReplyDeletePretty new blog. Your blog designer is awesome (but I think we knew that already, right?).
ReplyDeleteShe is pretty awesome, your designer. I'm thrilled that there's been a good response, but all that matters is that you likey. You should have this designer do business cards as well. And she should email you about them . . . right . . . now.
ReplyDeleteLove,
