new york in the fall always reminds me of when harry met sally. it's very tweedy.
sometimes i wonder.... so much of what i see reminds me of something i saw in a meg ryan movie once, when shouldn't it be the other way around?
this weekend, we said our goodbyes to fall. christmas always likes to come along and sort of hack fall off at the knees, doesn't it? i'm really ready for it, don't get me wrong, i just don't think that fall is ready for it. but here we are, jack frost and all that, even while the leaves are still quite golden and lovely. this year we felt a proper send off was in order. you know, a kiss to fall before she heads off.
sooooooooo.
we made one last trip to the farmers market for apple cider, one last walk around town without coats on, and one last leaf-strewn blissful ride on the swing set. here is to fall!
fall, we love you.
you're welcome to stick around with your 60 degree temps as long as you wish.
but we'll be pretty much ignoring you from here on out.
we do have christmas stockings to hang you know!

wow. i saw what you did there and it was genius. great opening and great post. i completely agree about fall being ushered about before she's good and ready.
ReplyDeleteyep, i was thinking about that, too. it's sort of like - thanksgiving embodies all that fall is, and then the day after *boom* we're supposed to shut the door on fall, say hello to winter, and start on CHRISTMAS! (which, you know i loves me some christmas, so... LOL) winter, in fact, doesn't even start til a few days before christmas.
ReplyDeletebut 60 degree temps? i could use another week or two of those! : )
i like to pretend every YGM reference is a personal shout-out to me. have i ever mentioned that?
ReplyDeleteso...thanks for the shout-out!
Oh, should we just call you Kathleen, based on your opening? Hm? That second paragraph had my spitting water out of my mouth, missy!

That last picture of Huck just elates pure joy. That kid is lucky to have such awesome parents.
ReplyDeleteYou make me want to curl up on my couch and have a Meg Ryan movie marathon. And Huck is super cute.
ReplyDeleteDiscovered your blog a couple of weeks ago linked from Harlem Love Birds. Love your posts, your boy is so adorable! I love seeing New York from a "normal" person's perspective, not a movie or TV show!!
ReplyDeleteThe photos are adorable Natalie!
ReplyDeletei am holding onto fall a bit longer until winter breaks down my door.

Totally random observation, but Kudos to Holbs. He looks like he is in good shape. Maybe I notice these things because my husband, who should be putting on a sympathy bump to help me feel less huge in the last two weeks of my twin pregnancy is likewise in optimal shape right now. SIGH. But ya know, these guys work hard to take good care of themselves so they can be around for their babies for a long time, so keep on keepin' on, Holbs!
ReplyDeleteI was just on a Thanksgiving Vaca to NY I am soooo happy about the weather..... Now if only that nice-ness would stick around here in Michigan...
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more! 'Nuff said.
