fashion week seems to be a sort of magnet. "if you put up tents, they will come." that sort of thing. it seemed like the entire world was in the city last weekend for fashion week, and luckily that included some of my favorite friends. sydney came into town and crashed on my couch, and while she was here the two of us plus our babies met up with the girls behind orchidgrey, jen loves kev, and a few of the girls from ruche for brunch. because, brunch! why not?
i mean, i guess that barely needs explaining.
we went to cafe cluny, a quaint little spot in the west of the west village. the walk there was the sort of walk that can turn ordinary people to poets. i would elaborate on that but do i need to?
p.s. the waiters at cafe cluny all wear st. james striped shirts. i loved it.
p.p.s. i brought my gentleman caller with me instead of my camera, and so i had to steal the entirety of these photos from everyone ;).
next time you're in the city:
cafe cluny
284 west 12th street
does not accept brunch reservations
just decent, breton shirts, gorgeous europeans.
that about sums it up. ;)
p.s.
i've become completely obsessed with downton abbey this month.
you too? thought so!
(i've watched the first season twice already, it's a sickness.)
i am positively distraught that i'll have to wait however long till season 3 starts.
if you are similarly wrecked,
please enjoy THIS: a few downton actors out-of-character.
(matthew crawley looking all hugh granty! and thomas with a beard! YUM.)
who knew o'brien and mrs. hughes were such foxes?! and why, ethel? why?
ReplyDeleteI already liked you, but that you love Downton Abbey? A deal sealer. I kind of don't trust people who don't like that show.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the Christmas special last night, I'm in mourning that it's so long until season 3. At least the ending of last night's episode was so gratifying. I've been smiling to myself (like a complete idiot) all day long.
When it ended last night, I was all "WAIT! It's 2 hours!" For shame that PBS makes us think it's 2 hours long when the end is actually behind the scenes. Which was enjoyable, but more of a follow up to the proposal would have been lovely since I have been saying since they broke up LAST season that they are going to get married! AND IT CAME TO PASS! Well, it WILL come to pass...
ReplyDeleteYou are the 196th person in the past month to rave about DA. I think I need to jump on that bandwagon.
ReplyDeleteJen! You do!
Deletethat pacifier with the mustache on it is beyond adorable.
ReplyDeleteomg look at mrs. hughes! wow, great make up job for her character!
ReplyDeleteHave loved this season of Downton even more than the last. Mary is nice?! As much as I'm looking forward to Season3, I kind of wonder how they're going to keep the momentum going with the war over and all the big romances wrapping up.
ReplyDeleteDowntown Abbey is the shiznit, especially since the title boasts my name.

uh, yeah, i finally gave in and watched DA on netflix (got so tired of everyone else talking about it)- I only have one episode left and then WHO KNOWS how long it will take for them to get the second season! I die, I want to live then and wear those dresses (not the maids')
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more on Downton. Husband and I are gearing up to watch the finale of season 2, but I'm dreading it being over for now. Also, I just heard that G-town cupcake opened up a shop in Soho! If Huck has a craving for a cupcake, tell him the PB Fudge, Milk Chocolate Birthday, and Vanilla Chocolate, are pretty darn fabulous!
ReplyDeleteoh goodness, i just got into this show recently, and it is so amazing! the character development really gets you!
ReplyDeleteoh, and that brunch looks absolutely perfect!! definitely in need of that right about now!
xo TJ
I love that last picture with the hand action, makes me want to know what you were talking about!
ReplyDeleteOh man. My MIL tried to convince to watch DA like 100 times and I always blew her off.... Until last Saturday. Now I'm almost through with season two and about to kill Mary for not telling Matthew her true feelings. Come on!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I'm on the second round of the second season! The first time around I watched it all by myself, the second time my husband miraculously agreed to try it out. He's now addicted, even though he wont admit it. I saw him perusing a tv guide magazine at the store the other day, because Downton Abbey was on the cover and he was hoping for spoilers.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful time! Some day I should like very much to just stroll through that city, not in any rush to be anywhere.
ReplyDeleteOk, I just posted about Downton Abbey and my obsession. But I think you have me beat. Although, I do not blame you. Have you see Downton Abbeyonce. Amazing tumblr. I just posted about it. And I loved that link. What a little makeup and hair not in old granny buns will do!
ReplyDeleteWait, six bloggers got together in Manhattan and only one of them had the top knot? You must have all been tweeting while getting ready to make sure on that one!
ReplyDeleteYay, I love this post! It shows a different side to everyone and what a charming brunch :)Wish I could have come!

I've been a DA fan since day one and am suffering serious withdrawals! But it's eased slightly by the podcast 'an hour with your ex' they've done episodes for each season of DA as well as the Christmas special. So funny!
ReplyDeleteJealous of this little blogger meet up! Looks like a blast :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love Downton Abbey. Did a little research and season 3 isn't supposed to come out in the U.S. until early 2013?? How in the world do these people think we can wait that long!
ReplyDeleteBut I have to say, Thomas was probably the most shocking of the onscreen/offscreen pics.
Love your blog!

Sounds good! That French toast looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteAnd I heard rumors that the next season of D.A. doesn't start until Januray of 2013?!!?!
Looks like you guys had a blast! We'll have to try that place out!
ReplyDeleteDownton and NYC brunch? I want to bookmark this post. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteLooove Downton Abbey! And can't get over how much younger Mrs. Hughes looks in real life!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought as I looked through your pictures here: Those girls LOOK like New Yorkers. *sigh* I think you're all fabulous.
ReplyDelete"the walk there was the sort of walk that can turn ordinary people to poets."
ReplyDeleteI can't get over how beautiful that sentence is, how perfect.
that's it!! I'm jumping on the downton abbey train!!
ReplyDeleteUgh! I just finished the Downton Abbey Christmas Special that aired on Sunday and I am completely distraught that I have to wait until next January!!! Like a fool, I watched it all in a few sittings and now I wish I would have paced myself. Darn my patience (or lack thereof)!
ReplyDeleteI just finished season 2! AAAAAHHH!!!! SOOO good! Why aren't there more shows like this? Sigh. And what's the deal with having to wait til next January for Season 3? I could gestate a child in the same time it takes them to make 7 measly episodes. Ok, rant over.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stylish crew! I do love a good brunch, even if the food is merely 'meh', so long as I have good girlfriends in attendance, it's all fabulous. And I am clearly missing out on all the Downton Abbey awesomeness, must remedy this!

ReplyDeleteI love your blog. You've inspired me to start my own & force my husband to quit his job so we can move to New York and live your life! (that part is still a work in progress.)
