on friday afternoon we spent a couple hours wandering through balboa.
on many (many) tips from instagram and twitter, we stopped in at dad's and got a hippo cookie.
(among plenty of other things. i am detoxing hard from this vacation.)
p.s. i'll take one of those million dollar beach houses if you're handing them out.
while i'm at it:
i'd like to formally thank this family reunion for officially turning my feelings around on california.
i've never much cared for san francisco or sacramento,
but orange county on south...
done deal.
thanks, balboa!

Being a Bay Area and Sacramento native, I think you should give it another chance. Northern California has A LOT to offer. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! Love your pix. I grew up around Sacramento and love it. It's def. different than southern CA though but like Allie said, Northern CA has a lot to offer. :)
ReplyDeleteAhh I used to live right there {not} in the million-dollar houses mind you...but this was my stomping ground in college :) Yay for reunions and vacations!!

I used to live right across from the Island on the peninsula. And unfortunately, not in one of those million dollar beach houses that look like a million bucks but one of those that is worth a million bucks but is rather you think isn't worth anything near it. but you're near the beach! it's all about location, right?
ReplyDeleteYour pics made me miss it!
Ah! This makes me want April to come so much faster, I can't wait to be in Cali. =)
ReplyDeleteI love the plethora of photos, no apologies needed.
Your photos are gorgeous! Balboa looks beautiful and quite delicious! Those hippo cookies are so cute! And because I'm sure no one has ever told you this, you and your sibs are identical. Now you know ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, "Do it now. Get married. Sleep naked." Now those are words to live by.

ReplyDeleteOh my! I love Balboa! I actually just did a post on my blog about it! (http://www.redpoppyphotos.com/blog/2012/01/25/balboa-island-southern-california-photographer/) So fun! I wish I knew you were coming in town, I would have LOVED to take your family pictures :) I've been following your blog for a while now, and... I love it!
ReplyDeleteBalboa Island! It's one of my favorite spots.
ReplyDeleteLast year my family took me there for Mothers day.
I was 8 months pregnant and could hardly fit under the saftey rail when I rode the ferris wheel with 2 of my kiddos.
Balboa bars, the ferry, ocean breezes--I love it all.
It looks like you had such a great time.
The pictures are great.
Love from,
Greta
Yeah, but did you get a frozen banana? 10 cents gets you nuts.
ReplyDeletethose photos are awesome! looks like such a fun time. and you and your sisters are gorgeous - amazing style too.
ReplyDeleteOf the many, many times I've been to Southern California, I went to Balboa for the first time ever this past summer. Looking at your pictures made my heart ache for it, because I truly fell in love with it! My mom vacationed there one summer and was on a MISSION to get a Balboa Bar from Dad's the minute we decided to visit Balboa. Next time I'll have to try a hippo cookie too! Thanks for the great pics :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! Balboa holds such a special place in my heart. I spent every summer there as a kid. I'm glad you enjoyed the hippo cookie. A balboa must. My favorite is the balboa bar with rainbow sprinkles!! To die for. I can't wait to take my little Eloise there for the first time this summer.
ReplyDeleteagreed, southern california is definitely the place that's got it going on!
ReplyDeleteMy friend's family has a house on the island. We would take trips down there all the time. Spending time riding bikes at 10 at night, walking the streets and just being there is the best feeling in the world! Oh how I miss Balboa. I may just have to go back when I go back home.

ReplyDeletePlease let me know where Hucks pats are from! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Sacramento and although I loved it, every location in Cali has such a different vibe. It's like a bunch of different states. Even Southern Cali is different all over. Loved your pictures and glimpses into your extended family. I hope they know your readers have fallen in love with the Lovins. Good title for Reality TV show, just saying'.
ReplyDeletefrozen bananas! i haven't had those since i moved away from Florida.
