on saturday we hunted down the local mr softee truck for our first softees of the season. now, we feel very strongly about eating foods in their proper season. a softee when it's even a stitch under seventy degrees is a crime against nature. so while that softee truck has been parked there by the apple store since march, we've been holding out till the time was juuuust right.
brandon prefers his softees dipped in cherry, i like 'em the way god made 'em: naked. huck likes to alternate bites between both. we make a good team that way.
three cheers for softee season
hip hip hooray!
Agree 110% about waiting for the right season! I got so upset when I heard a Mr. Softee truck on my block last month. DH grew up in NYC and also loves the cherry dip and in Queens where his family lives it's much cheaper than Manhattan so we usually wait to go out there to get it during family visits. Oh and about the imposters - I saw a huge line at Columbus Circle over the weekend at am imposter truck and even saw tourists taking pics in front of the truck. SMH!
ReplyDeleteOh this makes me want softees now! So delicious.
ReplyDeleteHuck is so fashionable in teal jeans.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it strange that we have softee trucks all over here in Detroit?! And they look the same! But I will say that ice cream trucks make a cone of vanilla way more exciting (although I agree with the McDonalds cone and diet coke) mmmm
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Yes to foods in the right season! I used to work in a restaurant and would cringe every time someone would order the shortribs in the August. There is something wrong with a huge pile of stewed meat in 90 degree weather. Ew. Mmmm softees!

I had my first mr whippy (that's what we call them here, think they are the same) a couple of weeks again when the temperatures were up and it was warm and sunny.
ReplyDeleteNow it is raining so no mr softees for me for a while--sad times.
I've been holding out as well because it has to be hot to enjoy those babies! And I agree with Brandon - dipped in cherry is THE BEST.
ReplyDeleteI never tried a softee while I was in New york. It looks like I was missing out big time.
ReplyDeleteice cream season is the best season! my daughter loves rainbow sprinkles the best.
ReplyDeleteOh yum, those look incredible! I'm going to seek that truck out the next time we are in NY.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious! Can't wait to hunt down that truck during our visit to the city in a few weeks.
ReplyDeletehuck is so so so cute and the softees sure look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to shave ice. They don't start selling those until after Memorial Day here...It's a summer thing.

ReplyDelete"...the way God made 'em... naked." I laughed out loud. And now I want a cone.

DeleteOh no! I knew someone who worked behind the scenes of where the trucks are kept and told me the unsanitary conditions of the trucks and that if I ever saw it I'd never have Mr. Softee again. It didn't stop me but he refuses to ever have a cone since =( I guess ignorance is bliss for me!
DeleteThe green jeans! I have that same pair in my size. Which means, he's already as stylish as a 26-year-old.
ReplyDeleteLove Huck's jeans. Where on earth are they from?! xo
ReplyDeleteI could DIE over Huck's jeans and sandals combo. Seriously the hippest baby ever.
ReplyDeletethe no strawberries in February is weird because in Florida where I am from and where we grow a TON of strawberries...they are ready in February. That is when the best strawberries are plucked from the fields and also when the annual Strawberry Festival is held!
