BANG BRAIDS AT THE LILLA P ANNIVERSARY PARTY

last weekend i hosted a little lilla p. anniversary party in the meatpacking district with christine from my style pill and keiko from keiko lynn. i worked with the lilla p. brand last summer, when i styled some looks from their line for the sakura bloom styleathon. (here is round 1, round 2 and round 3) i was asked to do a few bang braids on the party guests, and each time a girl would sit down for a braid i'd get a little worried that i was about to make her look ridiculous, but every time it turned out really great. seriously, no fail hair-do.

pauline later gave me a tour of her new office above her store. i am still dying over that chandelier! and then we got a little turned around trying to find the bathroom. (there were three! honestly, getting excited out over multiple bathrooms is probably really dumb.)

here are some of the lovely bangs i met and braided that night:

and a few other shots from the evening. (i took a lot of photos of shoes. apparently i am having a shoe moment.)

there was the loveliest french woman there that night. she was tousled just right, it must be a national past-time out there, tousling. i was dying over her bag from across the room and when i asked her if i could touch it, she looked at me like maybe i was crazy. but oh, that leather was like butter. worrrrth iiiiit.

when the party was over, i took the long way through chelsea in the cool night air. there is something about pushing a stroller all the time and then suddenly not pushing a stroller for a nght that makes you realize how much of the scenery you miss when you're busy handing over sippy cups and cheesy crackers and junk.

thank you pauline for the fun night,
and thank you christine and keiko for the birth order/astrology discussions.

It is funny being out without baby. I always feel strange, like I forgot to put on a bra or something. :)

  9. Ewwwww, rat on the tracks!

    (...okay, I'm done.)

Er, hells to the YEAH do a tutorial! Por favor! I wanna know how to do it on myself...my hairdresser did it for me a few weeks ago but I was totally zoned out on account of the fact I was performing backup vocal duties at a concert that night.

So yes, please hit us up with a tutorial!

  12. trust me, i've had many a french person mistake me for a mental institution escapee, too. it happens to the best of us, i think.

  13. Yes, yes, yes--when I don't have the small fry with me, it's like I see the world in completely new ways!!! Children make you see LIFE in a new way, but they also keep you so busy you forget to feel the breeze or look at the clouds or remember what silence sounds like.

Also, I'm sad to admit that beautiful braid is not for my head--I have such a tragically high forehead, it just won't work. I'll confess a few tears were shed over my attempts.

And I have to say I always feel left out of the birth order debate--as a twin with no other siblings, you feel unclassable. It's so sad--I want to be classed!!! And I relate in almost no way to being a Leo. I was SUPPOSED to be born in October...maybe that's why.

And if you act too enthusiastic about ANYTHING, French people look at you like you're mental. Ennui is an art form in Paris. Trust me on this--I get enthusiastic about a lot of things. Wearing flip flops also get you the mental-patient eyeball.

  14. I absolutely love that you included photos of you walking around downtown with your little party pics. This is why I love this blog. It's so real, I can hear a little girl shrieking about that rat like it's right next to me! Can you share those photo posing tips one day? I have absolutely no clue and always look ridiculous.

  19. Yes please for the braid bang tute (I never got the hang of braiding as a kid/teen so I'm a bit late to the party and need explicit instructions and/or video). Me plus my two sweet little girlies = much hair to be braided.

And a resounding yes to the tutorial!
I might have to play around with my bangs tomorrow to figure it out... a reverted french braid yes? Just can't figure out how you got it setting down lower to the forehead...

    Hope your Tuesday was great!

  34. So cute, those bang braids! I need to learn how to do a Dutch braid. For some reason I have a lot of trouble with that inverted doodling it requires. Sounds like a fun evening, you should treat yourself to excursions that don't involve handing down sippy-cups and maneuvering strollers more often!
