i had a silly thought this evening as i was frosting brandon's birthday cake.
the frosting was melting everywhere because i haven't found patience yet in my old age
and i can never wait for a cake to cool properly before i start to ice it,
and as i was layering gloopy frosing on that too-warm cake i thought,
well no wonder i haven't gotten pregnant yet.
how could i get pregnant in the summertime?! the baby wouldn't have a fall birthday!
because apparently you can't be a holbrook unless you have a fall birthday.
these just seem to be the rules.
we call it birthday season,
brandon's comes first.
(followed by mine two weeks later, followed by huck's three weeks later.)
(followed by halloween followed by thanksgiving followed by christmas! whew.)
brandon's birthday kicks us off.
it falls on the first day of fall (or the last day of summer, whatever),
and as i thought about it even more, i realized that this was all for very good reason.
because you see, all the best stuff starts with brandon.
you're our hero, brandon holbrook.
and aging with such grace! ;)
happy birthday, baby!
darling. i love your writing.
ReplyDeleteI'm madly in love with your dining room!
ReplyDeleteAwwww. Happy birthday, Brandon! You're so lucky to have such an awesome wife, gloopy frosting and all!

ReplyDeletespring is like that at my house...dad's birthday, mother's day, mom's birthday, my birthday, father's day - all within a month and a half (i feel bad for my sister).
Aww happy birthday! Such sweet words. And that is a lot of birthdays in a short amount of time! Phew!
ReplyDeleteI almost feel dumb for asking this, but... When is Barney's birthday?

LOVE Birthday season! We have one in my little family too. We got through Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Then my b-day is just after New Years, my husbands is 3 weeks later, then Sebastian's {he's the baby} is 2 weeks later. THEN our anniversary is 3 weeks later after that!!!
ReplyDeleteThen nothing.... we've thought about doing un-birthday's just for some fun in the summer!
OH! And don't forget about Valentine's Day sandwiched in between the baby's birthday and our anniversary! SO crazy.
Deletehappy birthday brandon! he's a lucky man to come home to a table like that - have a wonderful weekend holbrooks!
ReplyDeleteis your cake the one with the pretty B on it? gorgeous! doesn't look like it was frosted too soon (i should know i am cake impatient to the max.) happy birthday season to you all!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Brandon! Great time to have a birthday! :)
ReplyDeleteYour lucky that your family birthdays are around the same period! :D
ReplyDeleteAww, I love your decorations! Happy Birthday to your Brandon! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand "Birthday Season". For us there is Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, My daughter turns 6 on Dec 29, my other daughter turns 3 on Jan 3, My son turns 1 on Jan 24. Then there is Valentines and My birthday March 1 !!! It's crazy.
ReplyDeletemy husband and our baby will be born in your birthday season, well baby might just make it which means i will be out in june by myself.
ReplyDeletebut we are firmly in birthday season with grandad, mum, dad, mother-in-law, uncle, cousin, granny, other cousin, husband literally in less than a month--i should buy cards by the bulk :)
have a wonderful birthday, brandon holbrook!
ReplyDeleteFollowing that pattern, the next one will need to come 4 weeks after Hucks. Just sayin'
ReplyDeletehow sweet- i love your decor! my hubby has his birthday this weekend! i kick off summer (mine is memorial day) and he essentially ends it... i guess this means we will have to have summer babies? (but NO! then their friends at school won't be able to celebrate...)
ReplyDeletewah, wah...
shoot.
We have a birthday season too :) It begins in September and from then until the end of April we have one or more birthdays and/or holidays a month. Whew, that what happens when you have six kids I suppose :) Happy birthday to you all!

Love this setup. We are all fall birthdays over here too. I love love love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're making me want to decorate for Halloween. Its a big deal here, too, since our middle child is Oct 30, and LOVES Halloween. It kicks off our birthday-Halloween-Thanksgiving-parent teacher conferences-holiday fun-Christmas-New Years (also a friend's bday)-baby of the house bday-my bday-daddys bday-etc... It's like I take a breath, and then when I exhale it's after Easter and our eldest's birthday, then I have 6 glorious months off from birthdays. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet! Yay for birthday seasons! My daughter and I have just ten days between our birthdays and it is just so much fun to get all excited together.
ReplyDeleteYay! Birthday seasons are the best! In my family birthday season is April - June. It is definitely nice to have them all so close together.
ReplyDeleteSo if you all have fall birthdays then that means you'll get pregnant here real soon! Keepin my fingers crossed for you for another Fall Holbrook baby. :)
Its birthday season at our house too! My husbands birthday is today and mine is in 2 weeks, just like yours. Happy birthday season!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Yay for fall birthdays!

This is adorable! I'm jealous of fall birthdays.
ReplyDeleteI hope Brandon has a fantastic birthday! Have fun celebrating this weekend : )
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Brandon! Hope he doesn't have to work a million hours today! And of course, you need a fall baby! How could it be any other way. Just three or four more months ...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Brandon! I love that you guys have a birthday season. On the maternal side of my family we have a ton of birthdays in February/March. But my son is June...so he's the exceptional one!
ReplyDeleteI might have gasped when I saw this photo on instagram this morning. Your crafty cuteness knows no bounds. Happy Birthday to Brandon I'm a little jealous of all your fall birthdays. Best time of the year!!
ReplyDeleteFunny! When my husband and I first thought about having kids, we thought it would only work if he/she had a fall bday because we do (his, then mine two weeks later). Wouldn't you know we tried to get pregnant for a year before it finally worked for our little boy and his November birthday! Now our second is.due at the beginning of December. I think it is a curse.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday season! We are trying to get pregnant at the moment too... I think the only thing that helps is patience with all this! Any tips on remaining patient and hopeful - send them my way!

I heart you and this post. Everything you write makes me want to stop and take notice of all those wonderful, silly, little, miniscule details that make life worth living; all the things that regular people just are too busy to notice. Happy Birthday season to all you Holbrooks!
ReplyDeleteThis is just like my family in June! Five (or six? I can never remember...) birthdays in a four-day span! Too many cakes!!!
ReplyDeletewww.dailycatie.blogspot.com
Ant season that starts and ends with cake has to be the best kind. I'm fifty percent jealous that all your birthdays are so close. On one hand, it's a sweet family bond. On the other, my head would explode if I had to be in birthday mode three times in a row. Then everyone would end up with the same bag of cashews and a mom hiding in the closet whimpering. No winners.
ReplyDeleteyou are the cutest cutie that ever cuted.
ReplyDeleteAw, your little family is the cutest! And it's true, you HAVE to have a fall baby!! It works best for You've Got Mail, too ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that everything gets a kick start with your hubby's birthday. Let the fun festivities and holidays begin!!
xo TJ
How did you make the spiders in the picture?
ReplyDeletewe also have a season of birthdays: my daughter's, my mom the next day and my husband three weeks later. and, we also couldn't get pregnant until nearly the same exact conception date - my two babes even had the same due date for a while. so soon it will go youngest, eldest, grandma, husband, all in one month!
