You totally forgot about Mac Opulash. It is THE BEST in the world. And I, like you, have been around the block a time or two with all sorts of different mascaras. Definitely going to look into the L'Oreal one though! Marvelous work, m'dear.
I am dying to know...You mentioned at one time you were wearing false eyelashes, do you wear masacara with the falsies??? PS Can I have you new mascara collection DYING!
I held my breath until I saw that my trusted Falsies didn't disappoint too terribly. I guess I do have a harder time getting it off too--but I just use makeup removing wipes and probably gauge the crap out of my eyes trying to de-mascara myself. What a fun project to do, oops, I mean terribly painstaking and terrible.
Oh, what an arduous task! You pulled it off brilliantly ;) And my, do your eyelashes look pretty! I think I need to look into this "Lilash" you speak of..
Oh this is perfect! Thank you. The only department store brand I'd ever gotten was Buxom (it was in a sampler pack of sorts at Sephora but the straight not curvy stick) and I have LOVED it to bits. And now that it's empty I've been going through a sort of 'Do I spend $30 on mascara?' sort of phase over whether or not to re-purchase it. OR try a different department store brand.
Loved this! I have totally stood in the store thinking...how do you know?!?? I read every word, thanks girl. Also the Vaseline trick is so true...in a pinch I have used a cotton ball and olive oil...works just as well!
Oh my. I need this post. In the great hair shed of 2011 {ie when my son was born} I lost most of my eyelashes. I mean, come on! They are stumpy now. I've shed tears. They need some help.
perfection. i buy a new tube of mascara every time each one runs out, in hopes that i'll find THE one that i wanna put a ring on. maybe i'll give your winners a try and see if they're worth it! -ale
Thank you for all your hard work ;) I needed to pick up a new one too! Better than anything though is the line: It felt like I was rubbing a marshmallow on my lashes. Hilarious. Late to the the bandwagon, the first time I saw you was on Sydney's blog. She went to nyc, there was this girl with leopard pants on in her photos and I thought "I must know more!! Who is this girl!?" and you never disappoint. You are the funniest.
i can't wait to read the outcome especially as my mascara seems to have dried up over night--hate it when that happens. just hope i can get some of them in the uk :)
MAC plush lash. i keep going back to it, every time. although, if it's the tranny look we want, use the MAC zoom fast lash. but, im anxious to try your new top choice buxom! never heard of it.
Ladies, Imma go out on a limb here. I have found the greatest mascara on the planet. ON THE PLANET. First, I should state that I am not into volumizing mascaras. I don't like the way they look. But I am into eyelash drama! And wearability! And length, length, length.
I used to be a dedicated Shu Uemura Basic girl, until they changed the formula. (And now I HISSSSS at the new formula!)
If you're like me, this is the one. It's called Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl. It's made in Singapore, but you can get it on Amazon for like $17 with free shipping.
And it gets a 4.4 out of 5 on MakeupAlley, which is a big deal ladies. Big deal. http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=100564/
I had just commented that I love the Shu Uemura mascara best...I didn't know they changed the formula, so now I'm a little heartbroken! Btw, is that mascara you recommended waterproof? I only like waterproof mascaras.
I love your blog, and am also a huge fan of killer lashes, but I have to say that I think your use of the word "tranny" in this post is really in terrible, discriminatory taste. It's possible that you don't know, or maybe it's not a big thing for your politics, but the word is a very offensive slur, which has been used to marginalize and oppress transgender people for a long time.
I know that it's likely that it's not on your radar, and that your audience is likely not the type to care, but in case you DO care about equality and not using derogatory words, I thought I would point it out.
I truly love your blog, and really look forward to reading it, and hope that you will consider this constructive criticism, and know that I know that not everyone knows what's appropriate, and what is not...and consider taking this on board. Thanks for listening :)
(Also, I work at a fancy baby store that sells Skip Hop bath stuff, and saw you and Huck on the box, and had an "I KNOW HER!" moment, which I think might have made my new boss think I'm just a little bit odd :P)
thank you for the note! it was absolutely NOT my intention to use loaded words or terminology, so i've removed the paragraph in question. thank you for letting me know! i knew nothing of that word's history.
also, yes! that's us! it cracks me up whenever i see us around in shops. :)
Thank you SO much Natalie for being such a role model and such an obviously smart and receptive person. I adore your blog, and think you are just the bee's knees :)
You are lovely, and as Megan said, I didn't think it possible, but now I love your blog even more than before!!! (Juuust as a note though, I saw that the word was even more prevalently used in the babble post, and that it's still up.)
(I'll say hi to Huck's adorable face next time I'm at work :D Seriously though...he looks SO freakin' happy to be in the bath, it makes me happy. It's like that time you posted the video of Huck watching the puppies run into a room, and he just emanates joy. I love it!)
Okay forgive me, but mascara is my Thing. I have long eyelashes but they are flat flat flat as anything, so I just got them permed in a janky Chinatown "salon." Will you please teach us about Lilash?
Amazing!! I am apparently the only one who likes the old pink-and-green...but after this analysis, I realize I may be settling!! Time to try Buxom (cause let's be real, that's a thrilling adjective to apply to some part of your body every day).
Totally unrelated to this post, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your "What to buy at F21" posts. You have amazing taste, and the items you choose are really the best of what F21 has to offer. I have purchased a few things on your recommendations, and always get compliments and look of surprise when I tell them that they are from Forever! So, thanks for sorting through the thousands of items for the benefit of womankind :)
This mascara stuff is serious business! I'm glad that there are some that agree with me! Personally I only like waterproof mascaras and the one I keep going back to I is by Shu Uemura. They also make THE best lash curler if you are in the market for one. Thanks for your thorough experiments with mascara! All that hard work is impressive =) Hannah Rosette TheRosettePortrait
I'm a little bit obsessed with this post since I've been on a lifelong quest for the perfect mascara. I've used Buxom and didn't love love it. I think my technique must be lacking but you clearly have technique for days!! Can we get a follow-up with how you apply? Layers seem to be involved. Thanks! Xo
I'm a mascara virgin. I buy a tube, use it twice, then six months later have to throw it out and begin again. I always buy waterproof b/c I feel like otherwise it runs. Am I wrong? I live in a very hot climate and we're always sweating. Can I wear non-waterproof and not look like a raccoon??
okay i am drugstore mascara all the way, but i totally caved and bought that crazy fiber mascara from sephora for my one year anniversary! i wanted my makeup to be special and i totally shared the same feeling you had of it being its own little event. i've only worn it once since, but maybe i'll try out buxom since you had such luck with it and its not such an ordeal to put on ha.
I love bare minerals foundation and bronzer, but never thought to use their mascara. Can't wait to try it. :) can't believe that 3 part one. so crazy. this would be a fun experiment!
Thanks so much I'm in the process of vamping up my makeup routine and this is a great place to start. Also what lipstick do you have on here?! Your lips are so perfectly pink I'd love to know what it's called. Thanks!
I bought the Voluminous False Fiber Lashes today at the grocery store, can't wait to try it tomorrow! Though, believe me, as soon as I am able to get the the outlets or Sephora, I am snagging some Buxom for sure!!!
You're recommendations have become my guide;) I have a poncho on it's way; thanks to you and your babble posts....my poor bank account is in trouble!
Listen, are you a closet-reader of my blog (my old one)?? Because I have spoken in depth about my "skillz" list on my resume...it includes paper snowflakes, chugging a full nalgene in one go, and putting up my hair by tying it in a knot. Soul sister?
Thanks so much! I have been putting up with a horrible mascara for so long, but I went out and bought the Covergirl mascara on the weekend and I love it! Is so smooth and doesn't clump. Thanks :)
I've followed your blog for a long time but never commented. just wanted you to know that you have CHANGED my life!! the drugstore winner, false fiber lashes, is amazing. best mascara I've ever had. thanks so much!!
Perfect! I needed this. Wallets ready tomorrow morning. Seriously, thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteWill you tell us about the Lilash soon?
You totally forgot about Mac Opulash. It is THE BEST in the world. And I, like you, have been around the block a time or two with all sorts of different mascaras. Definitely going to look into the L'Oreal one though! Marvelous work, m'dear.
ReplyDeletedo you have anything on your lips here?! They're so perfectly pink, its just what I'm looking for!
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDeleteYES!!! I've been waiting for this post.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your review, girl! Japanese horror movie dead girl, haha. You crack me up.

ReplyDeleteI think this has solved my dilemma. Buxom it is!
i love you for doing this.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up. I think the Buxom is by Bare Escentuals. I just tried looking it and was taken there instead.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the hard work ;)
Thats sounded sarcastic. oops. I meant thanks for the tips and for doing the dirty work.

ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm actually really liking the Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara, but that's just my 2 cents.

ReplyDeleteBuxom's my fave too! Although I've been donning extensions for a few months now, J'ADORE. Nothing like the look of extensions. Huge I tell ya, HUGE.

ReplyDeleteFinding the "right" mascara has been my life long quest...still searching although I do like Tarte...
