a few days later we were settled in on the couch together watching one of his favorites movies, snoopy come home. i normally put a movie on to get something cleaned up around the house or to answer some email, but for once i was sitting still, watching most of the movie for the first time. one scene in particular got me all teary-eyed.
"schroeder," lucy was saying while leaning over the toy piano. "schroeder, how about a beep on the nose?"
"a what?" schroeder asks.
"beep!" lucy answers, poking his nose. "a beep on the nose is a sign of great affection."
that's when i thought to myself, i really like how this kid is turning out.
so we're a little rusty. i don't really know the chords (i have the tabs open on the computer, hence my zen-like focus), our puns are real bad, and plus it gets a little slow in the middle. but we're so proud of our big boy, so this one goes out to him.
happy birthday, huck. you are our everything.

ReplyDeleteThat video is absolutely adorable! I love when Huck just gets up and walks away, too funny. And the story about beeping someone's nose as a sign of perfection. That has got to be the sweetest story I have ever heard. You've got a keeper in that one. And let's all pray that the terrible two's passes your two year old. He's too cute to be grumpy ;)

This is too much!! Amazing. Happy Birthday Huck x
ReplyDeleteOh Natalie, I have read your blog so much you feel like a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your thoughts, pictures, and life with all of us. My husband and I are still in a similar "Idaho phase" that you went through, as he isn't done with school yet and we travel between Rexburg and Seattle (where we hail from). It's nice to appreciate what we have now, and also to dream about all the stages after this one. Who knows, maybe someday we'll end up in New York for a while. Wherever we end up, I will know it's more than okay to make a baby's room out of a closet. And that just because I have a little one, doesn't mean I have to stay in my house or abandon my wedge heels! I have you to thank for that; and so many other tidbits of advice that calm my worries about the unknowns of motherhood and being married more than two years and living far from home and being a woman in a big city. So, thank you. Thank you so much.
We are praying for your safety and protection, hope everything is alright.

p.s. Happy Birthday Huck! You are probably too old to hear this, but your cheeks are still delicious little man :) I hope this next year holds lots of kisses and nose beeps for all of you.
