let's just go way back. let's go all the way, way way back.
when i first started blogging, blogs were just these giant walls of text where you wrote down all the mundane, mind numbing details about your life because nobody was really going to read it, and also you couldn't put pictures in blogs, and the internet made screeching noises when you tried to get on it.
a reader left a comment on my last post along the lines of, "you guys seem to have lived some very different lives together," and when i read it i laughed and thought, AND HOW! and then i thought it would be funny to do a little cliffs notes version of the holbrook family history. you know, a "what you may have missed while i wasn't writing my blog" sort of deal. let's be honest you didn't miss any of it, and then i thought, that is the stupidest idea you've ever had, natalie. and then of course i had to do it.
i had so much fun looking through these old photos and putting this together. so thank you for indulging me.
after the jump! our humble, humble beginnings.
... natalie and scott farkus get engaged, february 2003. (just kidding, that's brandon! ;) ...
... married on a tuesday, in august of 2003 ...
... whoopdeedoo and stuff! we continue to live in utah until december, 2003 ...
... after graduation, brandon takes a job in portland (near my family!) where we live there for almost two years ...
...we traveled through italy and france with the holbrooks for christmas of 2004...
(please note that fish face. it's a glory.)
... brandon gets a promotion that comes with a nice office in the big (big) city, in july of 2005 ...
... we fall madly in love with brooklyn heights and i start blogging but not all that much ...
... we have our first (and last) football outing of our marriage in september of 2005 ...
... we celebrate my portion of holbrook birthday season in a cute little town in pennsylvania that october...
... and visit disneyland in november. no survivors! ...
... thanksgiving in nyc 2005 ...
... and then comes peter pan and i'm a mama! ...
... all my lovins come to nyc for christmas and sleep on a giant air mattress the size of my entire apartment ...
... peter pan continues to be the world's cutest, most weirdest dog ever ...
... in the spring of 2006 brandon goes "hey, how about law school?" and so at the end of that summer we move ...
... to idaho.
taduh! your cliffs done been noted.
p.s. i also got a request in the comments for the bikini in the snow photos.
and you guys. i do aim to please.
These posts are hysterical!! Love it! And that link to the bikini snow pictures. I died a little. So funny!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite certain that this post (with the snow bikini photos) just locked you away forever as my all time favorite blogger. Please don't EVER stop, your writing is magical!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH!!
ReplyDeleteI just realized that you are Alex's sister. I have been following your blog for awhile and I always knew you looked so familiar but I never made the connection. I was raised in Lake Oswego!! Wow, connecting the dots. Small world! I now see the connection, you and your sisters all look so much alike!!
Love these pictures.
xoxo,

Oh, Just Living the Dream
I love numbers and years and timelines and such. And so even though I basically already knew all of that information, I love having in one neat little post. Makes my nerdy soul so happy!
ReplyDeleteI love this blast from the past!! but hold up, is there an engagement post somewhere?! I love the love stories.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Those bikini in the snow pics are hilarious!! x
ReplyDeleteThis post needed to be much longer. IT COULD HAVE GONE ON FOREVER!!! Seriously, more photos about your time in Idaho, more photos about moving BACK to NYC, more photos about the different apartments you've been in NYC, literally I'm such a voyeur and adorer of your life and family and writing and could have kept scrolling FOR. EVER. I didn't want it to *end* at you getting to Idaho, and thought for sure it was going to go on (even though I already know all the details from reading your blog for like 4 years!!)and talk more about every single aspect of your life. You probably thought it was self indulgent and too long, but if it had been 40 more pages of photos marking various moments of your life I would have read until the end. I bet every person who reads your blog agrees!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI just went back yesterday and read my old wall-of-text-LJ-era bloggity-blog. That is some scary stuff. I'm glad blogs have evolved and that I'm not longer blogging whiny things (or anything currently). :)
ReplyDeleteI love your dog! My Blog
ReplyDeleteoh my! I loved this post.. and the bikini in the snow pictures just made my day :)
ReplyDeletewww.studentswife.com
I love this post...of course, I've been reading, but a refresher is nice too!
ReplyDeleteThe bikini photo!!! Thank you!!! I may put that on MY Christmas cards this year.
ReplyDeleteLoved this...so sweet. Kept me smiling whilst I bake my boy's 3rd birthday cake (for his third birthday, not that he's getting three cakes).
That was fun! Didn't you do a bikini in the snow picture when you were blogging in Idaho? Just sayin'....
ReplyDeleteYour little family is so adorable. It just warms my heart. (:
ReplyDeletei nearly shot pumpkin spice latte out of my nose when I clicked over to that hawaii post.
ReplyDeleteNo offense to Idaho, but did your soul die just a little when you moved there from NYC? I know mine would have. Mine did when I moved from Germany to Iowa. The things we do for love... :)
ReplyDeleteS.
Amazing pictures! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love all the dog pictures! haha cracks me up :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, these are great!!! Love the first Christmas card pic! Too cute :)
ReplyDeletexo, Jenna
The Scott farkus link made me LOL.
ReplyDeleteScott Farkus killed me. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THE ENGAGEMENT PHOTO?! that's hilarious.
ReplyDeleteBest post ever! (Well...it's up there.) I agree that I would LOVE a second installment that goes over Idaho and move back to NYC days. I also want to note that while you were clearly always adorbz, it is super neat to look at your fashion change and transitions! I kinda wish there was a post just about that...
ReplyDeletewhat kills me is that neither you or brandon look like you've aged a day. i mean, SERIOUSLY!?!?!? WHAT GIVES?
ReplyDeletei love these pics! but the bikini in the snow pics are awesomeness!!
ReplyDeletewell holy potatoes. first: the bikini in the snow post? i cannot. i believe i just woke my roommate up as i snorted with laughter. loudly. second: i think i am in love with peter pan. i'm not slow here so i get that he must have remained in idaho but i am now going to scour your blog to find out more info so i don't worry over him all night. crazy dog lady over here. but truly: that fisherman ensemble he's wearing in one photo? the tan hat and coat? i mean. the cutest ever. i can't imagine how hard that was for you all. thank you for sharing this, i feel so much more caught up as a new-ish reader!
ReplyDeleteI feel like that pic of you guys in front of Tiffany and co. Says oodles about your personalities. Ya know, since I know you so well, not.
ReplyDeleteHahaha love these photos!! Both of u look so happy and carefree :)
ReplyDeleteMO'S in Lincoln City! Ah, it's such a PNW cliche, but OH SO GOOD! Proud to hear you are also a Portlander :D
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was pretty convinced you had perfect everything. Now, I've seen your handwriting. And I KNOW. Also, can we talk about how you're doing this awesome "write on your pictures without crappy paint and digitization" thing??
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is not you, am I allowed to feel nostalgic for Idaho?
ReplyDeleteBecause gawl'dern, I loved that little house and all your pretty decorations.
I really love your favorite birthday dress. And what? You haven't aged a day!
ReplyDeleteKeep going!! I know you started your blog then, but I would love to keep reading this post until you get to today!
ReplyDeleteBrandon was totally going for some side-boob action in Venice!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a neat post! Y'all really have lived so many different lives. I just got married in July, but this makes me excited to one day look back on all we have done together. Such a special thing.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely family. Thanks for sharing with us!!
This is so cute! I was just stalking your blog yesterday because I was like, "Idaho?!" (I just started reading this year). These pics are hilarious (and Scott Farkis, baaaaaaaaahahahahaha!)! I really cannot imagine being married so young, but I do think it's very sweet that you've gotten to experience all these crazy things together! :)
ReplyDeleteYour flashbacks are just perfect! Love walking down memory lane with you :)

You have no idea how much I loved this! I've been reading through your archives for the past 2 weeks! Haha Call me crazy, but I have a lot of time at work! You've almost got this Arizona girl convinced to move to Moscow, and then I remember how much I love a big city, and the heat and I snap out of it! Thank You!!
ReplyDeletelooks like so much fun! and that birthday dress is too cute!
ReplyDeleteYou rock my socks...er flip-flops. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post. It's so much fun looking through old photos and seeing how people change.
ReplyDeleteThat picture of Peter Pan with the safari gear is just too precious.
PETER PAN! Oh how I miss that mutt. Not as much as you of course, but he was my favorite aspects of your blog. Also, bikini in the snow pictures are classic. Good pull from the archives!
ReplyDeleteooh, how are you doing the thing where you write on your photos? Loved this post and agree with others above: more please! I remember an offheaded reference you made to working in NYC the first time you were there. What was your job?
