do you sort of hate valentine's day? i think that's okay. before i married my red-headed valentine, my last name was lovin... so, my valentine's days have always been a buffet of unmet expectations. (i "went steady" with a boy named degory valentine in middle school, isn't that tragic/awesome? not nearly as awesome as the time my roommate in college's last name was dick. my maiden name was a lot of fun for me.)
but i appreciate valentine's day if for no other reason than it's a good pop of red in the middle of a gray midwinter, not to mention a great excuse to toss up something festive in those empty-seeming corners where our christmas decorations used to live. so here are a couple of hearty* red splashes for you, for favorite your person, or for your favorite furbaby, from the curated valentine's shop at fab. we'll make it through this holiday together.
(*hearty? get it? ouch that's pretty bad, natalie.)

Ah, the cheese board is stellar!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this does of hilarity, I needed it! I'm so sorry but I don't think I will ever stop chuckling about your last name coupled with your friend's last name....I am SUCH A 2 YR OLD! :)
ReplyDeletei adore valentine's day, even if my relationships never seem to agree with it. i think there's something so magical about all that love in one day! last year my 4-year-old nephew showed up at my office on v-day with a pink stuffed monkey, 3 roses and a buzz lightyear valentine. (and he was wearing his beloved toy story boots.) that one will be hard to top.
ReplyDeleteAhh, I love people who understand what it's like to have an embarrassing last night. My maiden name is Beaver. Oh, that was real fun.
ReplyDeleteMy sister's best friend's last name was fanckboner. so... there's that.
ReplyDeleteDying. That one is sending me over the edge.
DeleteOh I never even thought about your name like that! Lovin and Valentine is so sweet, but a roommate with the last name Dick - forgive me, but that's hilarious!! My name is Fox - which I HATED until I was about 21. And then I started liking it and kept my name when I got married!
ReplyDeleteI'm eloping on Valentines Day this year so I am pretty excited about this 'holiday'!
ReplyDeleteAll those plays on words made me laugh, laugh, laugh. good one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
Cute stuff! Especially that cutting board. I kinda want that. I've always liked Valentine's Day. I'm one of those overly optimistic, always laughing, positive people so I look at it as just a day to declare your love for people! I get annoyed with the cynics. That said, my husband and I don't really celebrate it haha It's a little too expected, I guess. I just like to buy heart shaped things and eat chocolate, pretty much.
ReplyDeleteThat egg pan. Gonna have to BE MINE, one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThis is so incredibly "lovely" get it? Haha thank you for the laughs.
ReplyDeletedick lovin... oh geez!

I've never been one to swoon over heart-shaped candies or giant stuffed teddy bears (seriously - does anyone ever really want one of those things?) but I would certainly love Valentine's Day more if my guy bought me a heart-shaped waffle maker. What a hearty* breakfast that would make!
ReplyDelete(*Er. Was that any better? Yikes.)
Lovely post! x

ReplyDeleteOMG, how funny it must have been a Lovin dating a Valentine, thanks for the good the good laugh! I Absolutely love the umbrella and the toys for my dog. Since my hubby will be getting me luxury roses from a website I love (bfflowers.com, if anyone is interested), I guess I can splurge a little and get him that nice red sweater, hehehe.
