A NIGHT AT THE STANDARD

whenever brandon and i have walked the high line together in the past we've always stopped just under the standard hotel and pointed and squinted and had the same old debate: what do you think it's like in there? do you think it's weird that we can see into their rooms? can they see us walking right below them? there's always a huge party going on on the roof and i always thought if i could have a night in a hotel anywhere in the city, it'd be here. (brandon would choose the mandarin oriental, so let it be known.)

when syd and the girls were in town they were put up at the standard, so on friday night my dreams came true, and i packed me up a little overnight bag. we slumber partied it old school style in one big old bed. it was mama's first night away from baby. after two and a half years! i slept horribly and really, nights off might be overrated when brandon's not involved. but it was fun anyway.

and yes, you can see into the rooms, and no, there are no shower doors (sexy?) and yes, you can see the people walking down the high line below you in pretty close up detail.

also i sort of wanted to tuck that leather chair under my arm on my way out the next morning, but i settled for a mini bottle of lotion. you know.

um and now that i'm thinking about it, this isn't a sponsored post, just in case you were wondering. ;)  (oh blogging.)

  3. nothing like a rumpled hotel bed that you don't have to make in the morning.

  4. Love that you gals had a slumber party :) The hotel looks so nice- have to admit I`m totally weirded out by the lack of shower doors, even if it is supposed to be a sexy touch! But a donut delivery truck more than makes up for that!!

  12. Love how you're sitting at the table, with your toes all pointed and such like that's a normal stance. Oh, blogging.

  13. Love, love that chair and table. I've always wished for a house full of windows, I'd have the blinds wide open without one care about who can see inside, I love sunlight.
I love my nights away but only at a few hour spurts, I agree full nights off are only enjoyable with my husband in tow.

  26. Dear Natalie,
I´m from Portugal, Lisbon and I love you blog.
I read this post and remembered three years ago, when i went to NYC with my husband and stayed in The Standard for a week. It was amazing. The hotel, the food of the Standard Grill and also the Beergarden ( i don´t know if they still have it)... I miss new york.. I also have a blog.
I guess you will not understand a word because it is in Portuguese, but fell free to follow and see the pictures.

  27. Love these shots. I was on the high line just a few weeks ago looking up and wondering how much people really can see. This city feels like a fish bowl to me sometimes. I think I need a night away and this might be the place!
