today was a highly productive day for me! i just thought you should know.
wednesdays are my writing days. a friend of mine runs an office in soho, "where the diet coke flows like water," and he's been nice enough to let me borrow a desk there once a week. people bring their dogs in and it happens to be near a lot of really great food and though i didn't actually get any real writing done in the five hours i was there today, i did manage to finally write a few important emails (writing emails is the hardest!), as well as try on every single black leather jacket on a half-mile stretch of broadway. i even came away with two very likely winners, thank you very much.
and then i came home, playgrounded the kid, had a valuable teaching moment re: hitting, and then tidied and re-tidied the house at least five times, seriously.
tidying is sort of my favorite, i could have happily gone for a sixth.
well, make that one very likely winner. the other one is an allsaints number that costs $900, and it isn't even all leather! i tell you, it's a mess. this leather jacket situation is ridiculous. "i just want to look like pat benatar!" is what i told the lady at aritzia. i don't think she knew what i meant, and actually i'm pretty sure i meant joan jett. so now all i have to decide is whether or not i'm the type of lady to rock a brown motorcycle jacket. indiana jones style. or was his more of a bomber.
it's been one long week and a half since the family was here, and it's remarkable to me how much i've missed them already. these photos are unrelated to everything there is, but i love them so there. i consider myself super lucky to have such a wonderful family. even if the genes they passed down make it impossible for me to fit into leather jackets.
(but brown motorcycle jackets. discuss.)
pat benatar! joan jett! yes, i'm with this!! 80s lady rockers are one of my favorite things! i just bought a thrifted black leather jacket....but brown...i can see this! i'm feeling some stripes with one.
ReplyDeleteps adorable photos. xoxo
family in town I the best.. :)
ReplyDeletelovely photos !

Brown is so good.. But a good tan leather is kind of my favorite. And you'd totally rock it.
ReplyDeleteI feel like a brown leather jacket is very 90s Meg Ryan. And we all know that's not a bad thing!
ReplyDeleteI actually have a brown motorcycle leather jacket from AllSaints that I love (it definitely wasn't $900, though - I think they're slightly cheaper over here, plus I got it at one of their airport concessions, so saved some ££, hurrah!) -- brown is the way forward!
ReplyDeleteBlack motorcycle leather jacket = predictable, brown - not so much. I think brown would suit you just fine. Do it. xo
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are so cute of Huck -Hanna Marie
ReplyDeleteYou are my leather jacket soul twin! I have been hunting for YEARS for a moto jacket. My unique body shape makes some a bit too weird and my unique personality make some too "tough".
ReplyDeleteI found the leather love of my life at... Get this... JC PENNY'S. oxblood (for lack of a better description) with just the right enough of edge. Thanks to my grandmother for dragging me there!
I will rock a non-black moto right along with you from the mean streets of Pittsburgh Pa!
I love these pictures, particularly the last one. As for the leather jacket, brown for the win. Just do it.
ReplyDeleteSo i'm curious. Where did this brown leather jacket come from? (I'm on the hunt too, along with every other woman. Not necessarily for a brown one, but I wouldn't discount it)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a brown motorcycle jacket more than a black one. I mean with a black one you run the risk of looking less like Bat Benatar and more like Michelle Pfeiffer in Married to the Mob. The brown moto. jacket is cool and it will look great with everything. Plus who doesn't want to look a little like Indiana Joans. Remember the pretty blonde nazi in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? She had a jacket that was almost exactly like his and she looked awesome. Stick with the brown one.
ReplyDeletethat blonde not-much-of-a-baby-amymore of yours is one lil cutie. and I love allsaints too, mostly the décor in their broadway store, except one time the store clerk reprimanded me for taking a photo of all those awesome singer sewing machines on the wall.... and I vowed never to buy a piece of clothing there, ever. especially if it's $900 and it's not 100% leather! geesh!
ReplyDeleteI too have been searching for the right leather jacket. I found a great one at Forever 21 3 years ago, but it's starting to show it's "forever 21" qualities. As for brown.. i used to hate that idea, but this one blogger I follow has a light brown jacket, and it really grew on me.The only problem is that black goes with most things i own, and it has such a simple and classic look.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty much this comment isn't helpful at all, so i'm just going to include the link to how she wears the brown jacket.

I'll take brown leather over black leather any day of the week. You should DEFINITELY go for the brown.
ReplyDeleteSuch great pictures! Family is such a rockin thing. And so is a good ol' brown leather jacket. ;)

Normally I would say go with brown, but lately I've been diggin the black leather. It's so classy or edgy depending on what kind of look you're going for. My vote is black :)

you could pull off brown and still make it look badass, lady. that being said, the kids one from zara you had on the other night was killer.

man, that huck is cute. love his pants!
ReplyDeleteI'd check shoe selection. more black shoes=black leather / more brown shoes=brown leather. Unless you like to mix and match brown and black to which I say huzzah and disregard previous statement. Personally I'm a brown leather girl- I think it can be b.a. but transitions into being classy easier than most black leather jackets
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of mixing brown/black/grey/what have you. I think brown would probably match everything I have better than black but really that's a pit of the stomach decision. Pray about it. Ha.

ReplyDeleteI have a brown bomber from the Levi store that I get TONS of compliments on when I wear it (it's a little Indiana Jonseian but also very Amelia Earheart). They have great quality leather. I got a black, tailored, all leather (biker/silver zippered + Chanel/quilted) from Cusp. Do you know Cusp? I've only recently come across it-it's an off shoot of Neiman Marcus (for younger professionals). It was about $400 but all leather-check it out? The sales assistant was like-"Well, it's synthetic-but that's so in-Oh.My.God. it's ALL leather-you have to buy it. IF you don't Im buying it."
ReplyDeleteblack black black black black
ReplyDeleteBrown is very Indiana Jones but yes, sadly, nothing beats black leather. I have this thing I do where I want something precise (usually also expensive), right? But I talk myself into buying the cheaper/easier option and try to love it as hard. And then I have a shopping seizure and end up buying the thing I wanted in the first place, ergo going above and beyond my original budget and need. Tidy.
ReplyDelete(And if it helps, my two real, all-leather babies are from Bloomingdales—not my usual first stop—and ASOS.)
I say they are a no- I believe the perfect black one is out there! Don't settle! :) - Court | lovecourtxoxo.com
ReplyDeleteThis is from Amazon UK, but it's pretty rocking... http://www.polyvore.com/il2l_womens_leather_bomber_jacket/thing?id=64044287
ReplyDeleteI am going to vote no on the brown leather jacket but YES on that adorable picture of Huck and granddad (?). Twins!
ReplyDeletevictorias secret online sells great jackets and coats...
ReplyDeletethat boy is magical in that tee.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the brown leather moto jacket- you'd totally rock it!
ReplyDeleteYour family just looks so stinking fun.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you adore your family. And it's obvious they adore you.
super distressed dark brown leather is good... just go look at allsaints collection. any other type of brown is icky and can look cheap very very easily.
ReplyDeleteI have a navy all saints leather jacket. to die for. only $600?!?!
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is adorable!!!
