earlier this week i was lucky enough to host a little brow party at the benefit store in soho. holly, who we discovered that night was my taller, prettier twin (seriously, how many people came up to give you a hug thinking you were me when they first walked in, holly?) (after the wedding this weekend where i was constantly mistaken for amanda, alex, my mom, and sometimes even for myself... i mean it's cool, i'm used to it). so where was i? parenthetical asides, the risks you take i guess. so right, holly contacted me before the wedding and was like, wanna do it? and i was like, give me a break yes. since it was so last minute i was literally firing invites off left and right from my phone all weekend so i'm pretty confident i forgot to invite everybody that was important to me.
so it went: land at 10:30 monday morning, get home by noon, i power napped while brandon sat bleary-eyed on the couch with a very alert and well-rested huck, and then i snuck huck out to help me replenish the fridge so brandon could nap, and then brandon sat bleary-eyed on the couch with huck again while i ran out to play with some friends and celebrate the hair that resides on our foreheads. it was sort of a funny day. none of us have any idea what time zone we're operating on anymore, which is jazzy because we're leaving for portland on sunday anyway. the holbrook time zone knows no boundaries.
after a stressful weekend of traveling this was JUST what i needed. i felt so loved seeing so many of my friends make it out so last minute, and so flippin tired too. hah! that night we each received a complimentary brow service (brow wax, brow tint, brow thread, lash tint) and got our make up done. we talked a lot of brow strategy and ate a lot of oreos. here are a few shots from the night:
some of the group! you know how sometimes you're reminded how short you are? this is one of those times.
I would have to say my biggest beauty dilemma is bronzer. I'm a fellow fair skinned beauty and I know it can make me look alive and contour my face but how can I do that while still looking natural, and not like Lindsay Lohan circa 2008?
ReplyDeleteUse NYX Taupe blush! I'm pale-ish and it works really well. Just make sure you use a brush that picks up a lot of product since you'll have to build it up.. The Real Techniques angled brush is good for that.
Deleteeeep! i always have a hard time with eyeshadow! how much is too much? do you bring extra to touch up? what's a lash-line, etc. etc. it's never ending.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit it - my brows. I know that they could use some professional shaping, and I've never used a brow pencil. Help!
ReplyDeleteMy skin is really fair and sensitive and so I have never successfully put on eye liner. People are baffled by this but it really looks silly when I do it. I am so jealous of my full-lash-smoky-eyed friends!
ReplyDeletePS did you see this?: " You've Got Mail's Guide to New York" http://www.buzzfeed.com/jaimieetkin/youve-got-mail-guide-to-new-york
i hadn't!! thank you!!!
DeleteHow fun! I would love to do this. My biggest problem is I would really love to know how to contour, but I just can't figure it out I guess. All the tutorials in the world (Pinterest) have me looking like a clown.
ReplyDeletePreventing the redness and puffiness after an eyebrow and lip wax. I seriously look like a clown after getting waxed. It's awful!
ReplyDeleteThis would be a joy! My worst problem is that I have thin brows (they're blonde too) from over plucking them in high school. I can never get a brow pencil shade right. It's either too yellow, too red, or too dark. And my brows go all over the place too. I've learned how to do everything else from the internet and from you (Natalie with the lashes! thanks) but the internet isn't helping me with my brow dilemma!
ReplyDeleteBenefit = heaven. Aren't their stylists the nicest!? Biggest beauty dilemma is eyeliner for me. How thick is the line supposed to be? brown or black? pencil or liquid? the options are baffling.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is getting my brows to match. I know people say, "they're sisters, not twins," and all that jazz... but dang it, mine are maybe... half-sisters, at most!
ReplyDeleteMy beauty dilemma has always been eyeliner. Should I put it on both top and bottom? Should it be thick or cat eyed? Should I nix it and just do mascara? It's a daily dilemma. A silly but real daily dilemma.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest problem is how far to do my brows! And I guess you have a secret twin! -Hanna Lei
ReplyDeletemine is for sure lipstick! i either have dead lips or clown lips!
ReplyDeleteI'm not kidding you, I saw your instagram of this earlier this week and was like "DUH. I need this." My brows are out of control. They are my biggest dilemma. What do I do with them? Do I trim them? Do I pluck above the brow line if it's unruly up there? Do I BRUSH them? Do I use clear mascara to keep them in place? Do they make clear mascara? Should I just use lip gloss? Right now I use a toothbrush to put them where I want them to be. As you can see, I need this. Bad.
ReplyDeleteI totally thought about you today while reading the "You've Got Mail" Buzzfeed posts - love that you've linked them up here! :)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma comes down to finding the perfect moisturizer. I have crazy combination skin. Parts of my face are super dry and the other parts are oily (Bah! Winter in Chicago is the pits!). The amount of moisturizers and creams and toners are completely overwhelming.
biggest dilemma is definitely foundation -- getting the right shade, type, and attempting 'flawless' skin ... eek!
ReplyDeleteMine is dry flakes of skin on my forehead. I scrub and triple moisturize. Still with the flakes!
ReplyDeleteOh. Isn't You've Got Mail the greatest? Thank you for those articles! It was great reading the dialogue between the two women watching it.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest problem is my brows actually! They are very blonde and I struggle with how dark to make them without looking like a man! Is would be so perfect!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is most definitely those macara rubbing off into the skin of my deep set eyes! Not matter what kind I use, by five the mascara is settling and looking like dark circles. Maybe try that tubing mascara? Will that be like little caterpillars falling off my eyelashes?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely brows! They're blonde and thin and I can never get much of a shape out of them.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is my lips… anytime I try to wear lipstick or tint I feel like I am a little girl wearing her mom's makeup. I need to learn how to color my lips like a big girl :)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma would have to be eye shadow...goodness, it's harder to apply (and look right) then it should be!
ReplyDeletegodslittleangel92 at hotmail dot com
My biggest beauty dilemma is definitely perfecting the cat eye!
ReplyDeleteshines@uoregon.edu
My biggest beauty dilemma would be foundation - powder, liquid, too heavy, right shade, enough coverage?
ReplyDeleteMine is my lips...forever and always. I'm ocd when it comes to keeping my lips moist and I have yet to find a product with a good color, an incredible moisture factor and something that wont come off at the first sip of a drink or bite of food. Oy vey!
ReplyDeletemy biggest beauty dilemma is for sure my brows - the plight of a ginger!
ReplyDeletebronzer/blush/contouring is a close and horrible second place.
oh man. my brows need a shape up. i go back and forth between eddie munster brows (too scared to pluck/thread) and too thin brows (when i finally take the plunge). would love to have a pro give my brows a beautiful shape that works for my face!
ReplyDeleteaside from my brows, foundation is a total mystery to me. i look like i'm wearing a mask when i use it?
keeping makeup in place all day! I love love love Benefit - this would be so fun for a girls night :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Contouring! My goodness is that a question mark! I get the idea but I just cannot deliver the results to my face! Ha! Awesome giveaway! :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI never know what colour foundation and concealer to wear! It ALWAYS seems to go orange!!!
ReplyDeleteBiggest Beauty Dilemma... My brows! Even after getting them shaped and in between waxes, I feel like they get lost on my face. I'm so bad at filling them in! I feel like I'm either over doing it or under doing it when I use a pencil to fill them in everyday.
ReplyDeleteBrows, for sure! I've over plucked, under plucked, trimmed, gelled, penciled, powders, and shaped my giant caterpillar brows over the years and still have no idea what to do with them. I've even contemplated shaving them off, all chola style, and just penciling them in.
ReplyDeletemy biggest dilemma....definitely my browz. i'm curious about filling them in. know i like them waxed. but i never know how to articulate to the waxer what i would like them to look like (i also am never loyal to the same salon for this reason because no one has really nailed it for me in a few years...). like, do i tell her i want them arched? DO i want them arched? Thinner? I have no vocabulary for this sort of thing.
ReplyDeletelipppppppppppps! Mine are always pretty chapped and i can't find the perfect gloss/lipstick color.
ReplyDeleteI have the hardest time finding the right foundation. I have dry skin and in the winter I feel like there's nothing that won't flake off!
ReplyDeleteBiggest problem is definitely choosing a proper mascara for my barely-there eyelashes! Such a fun giveaway - thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is bronzer! I have tan skin and am not really sure if I should be using it, where, and how?!
ReplyDelete- Katrina
My biggest beauty dilemma is the dark under eye circles. I promise I sleep, but alas, they remain, and covering them up is always an issue!
ReplyDeleteBiggest beauty dilemma would be my eyeliner application. Sometimes it looks okay and sometimes it is way too dramatic and not day appropiate....I mean, how can I master the cat eye on a Monday morning without looking like I am going clubbing?
ReplyDeletelipstick. i love it and just started using lipstick but i'm at a total loss as to which is right for me. does more expensive really matter? or is wet n'wild still okay? ;)
ReplyDeleteLipstick!! How do you get that stuff to stay on?!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to really play up my eyes. Too many options!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is my hair! I have no idea how to get volume. It's the pits, but I've always been a big fan of Benefit and especially their brow pencils so I hope I win!
ReplyDeleteI'm so bad at ad ll things make-up, but I could really use some help picking out a foundation. I am the dork always and forever with the chin foundation line. embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteEyeliner/eyeshadow. I'm clueless when it comes to putting it on and making it last all day. I hate when I see myself in a mirror at 5 p.m. with racoon eyes and streaks across my eyelids and think "OMG how long have I looked like this!? Why did no one say anything?!"
ReplyDeleteBrows for sure! Trimming? Shaping? What the heck is up with those things? Why, why do we have them? And then it's 100 degrees and I remember. But still, brows.
ReplyDeletefoundation--i am a ballet dancer who loves to wear makeup, but because i spend most of the day dancing/sweating things can get tricky face-wise. i am always trying to find the perfect formula that helps me feel pretty but doesn't get spotty or weird.
ReplyDeletewhat the best facial sunscreen is in my price range. i live near a benefit brow bar and i just know this is finally my time :)!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is eye make-up---I do the same thing every day and I just dont know how to switch it up.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Love Benefit and love brows!!
ReplyDeleteI would love this! My ladies and I need a good gab and groomin' fest. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a tie -- I cannot apply eyeliner properly to save my life. Also, I cannot curl my hair properly -- I desperately want pretty beachy waves, but last time I tried it out with my curling iron, I gave myself two (two!!) serious burns (like, second degree blistering scarred burns). If you get points for an excellent story, I would also like to note that one of those burns was on my ring finger, a week later I got engaged, so all of my "omg look at my ring!" photos are marred by this huge gross burn.
ReplyDeleteMy brows! Ugh! I've been doing some research and looking at making a trip to Benefit to get help! But all my monies have gone to the little ones Christmas, so no monies left to upkeep mommy. Anyways, I just recently bought my first brow pencil (the absolute cheapest one out there..). I ruined my brows in highschool and now I'm stuck with these weird, way too light brows.... Without the slightest clue where to begin.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Monday is my birthday.... Just saying. ;)
DeleteThis sounds wonderful! I'm tied with my brows and foundation. Both complicated but important things!
ReplyDeletebiggest beauty dilemma: my pores. perhaps that's not the right answer but seriously...my pores are huge and i wash my face religiously, i mean like religiously every morning and evening, its replaced my prayers unfortunately (sometimes i fall off that bandwagon too often) As for other classic beauty dilemma...you know brows, lipstick color, blush, bronzer, eye shadow....yeah well i suck at that stuff too! ... and here my husband thought that all girls just intuitively knew how to do that stuff, right? Wrong.
ReplyDeletemuch needed help & waxing!
I have been trying to grow out my brows, this would be so fun! And I love Benefit.
ReplyDeleteMy challenge is definitely foundation, how much, how to apply/blend? Match my skin color? what if I am tan in summer or pale in winter? Help, please.
How to use concealer and not look like a ghost!
ReplyDeleteFun! I need help with lip products. I am super picky about how the stuff tastes, so that's pretty limiting.
ReplyDeleteHow to use eye shadow!!
ReplyDeleteMy eyeliner! It constantly gets smudged on my kid throughout the night. I need a better, smudge-free liner! :)
ReplyDeleteMichelle Lim

The old "how to cover up this third eye... aka zit... on my forehead sitch" is the ultimate I don't get it for me. Do tell... XO
ReplyDeletei always have problems matching colors with my skin. and i love benefit!
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow! I don't understand it!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma would have to be keeping up with my eyebrows!! One little hair always seems to grow right after I get them every night and sometimes it's too short to tweeze!
ReplyDeleteMASCARA.
ReplyDeleteWhich you seem to be an expert at (I remember those beauty experiments you did!).
It is an unending source of mystery and frustration to me. How can I manage to apply it just to eyelashes and not all of the surrounding skin? How do you achieve that bombshell-but-natural look where lashes aren't bare but aren't spidery?
How do I keep it from infiltrating my eyeball, resulting in me scratching at my contacts and then crying it off???
Yes, I have even resorted to running an eyelash comb under the blow dryer to heat it up and comb through my crusty mascara, which resulted in the melted mascara look (I invented this, apparently). Help!!
There is a Benefit with Brow Bar 5 minutes away from me! Have to give them a try.
Fun giveaway! My biggest beauty dilemma is what to use for under-eye coverup. Genetics has gifted me with purpley shadows even when I'm well rested and I'm always on the hunt for a perfect product that camoflauges them without being too thick or too weak.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is eyeliner! I have absolutely no idea what to do with it, but I look ridiculous without it?! Major conundrum!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is my dry skin. :/ What do I even put on it that makes it not dry, not get flaky, not be terribly toxic, and not be greasy? But my eyebrows could use some help too. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is eyeliner. I can't seem to get it close enough to my eye (it freaks me out) so I have kinda given up.
ReplyDelete:( I live in SF and there are quite a few Benefit boutiques. I haven't been to one yet though so I hope I win!
kosbornb [at] yahoo [dot] com
My biggest dilemma is contouring - I can manage blush and highlight but cannot figure out how to give myself cheekbones. I have a rather round face so cheek bones would be quite nice.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is dry skin. All I want to that dewy fresh look but around this time is when I start to flake.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is eyeshadow. What color? What shape? Does it even make a difference? How do ladies keep it on all day?
ReplyDeleteFinding a black liner that goes on easy and stays put!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma has to be eye make-up in general. I can't seem to come up with a daytime look that doesn't make me feel like I'm trying too hard or am a lady of the night. As a SAHM, I'd love to come up with a quick, natural looking routine that would make me feel a bit more put together, but for some reason I can't seem to make that happen. And my brows have seen better days…I'd love a chance to get them all prettied up at Benefit!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! My biggest dilemma is getting mascara on just the right amount so it looks like I have super thick (natural) lashes. Tough stuff!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is I hardly every wear any makeup, usually a little mascara on good day, so when I'm having a night out and try to put some on I feel like I am way over the top on everything. Mainly in the eye region. I just don't even know where to begin without for lack of better words looking like a hooker :)
ReplyDeleteI struggle with my mascara streaking my glasses! Sometimes I have to do my makeup in a rush right before I head out the door, and then I put my glasses on and it looks like the world is behind bars! Curling my lashes pulls them out! So frustrating.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest issue is probably my lips. I've figured out eyeshadow and blending, but dang it every time I try to put lipstick on (which is often, I like a bold lip and bare minimum eyes) I can't figure out where my lip line is.
ReplyDeleteIn related news, I never got the hang of coloring in the lines in preschool.
My biggest beauty dilemma is concealer. Does one exist that might actually cover my dark circles? If so, I haven't discovered it yet!
ReplyDeleteGosh probably a tie between every mascara ever flaking off into my deep set eyes and making me look like I got punched..so there's that and then a finding a good natural looking lip color!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest issue is I don't have time to even out makeup on or even groom by brows with a one year old and working full time.
ReplyDeleteBrows! I'd love to have a party like this! Looks fun.
ReplyDeleteMelon623@gmail.com
Definitely lipstick! I never know what to shade and I am also just the worst at applying it!
ReplyDeleteEye shadow! I NEVER wear it because I DON:T know how to apply it! I need someone to literally teach me how to do it! Gahh! I also would love to know what color brow pencil to get and how to shape these bad boys... I'm trying my best right now. One thing's for sure--I would have failed cosmo school.
ReplyDeleteHave no idea how to use an eye lash curler. I am 30 years old and have had the same one for about a decade and still have no clue how to use it. Do they even work? I have no idea about these things.
ReplyDeletemine is, for surrreee, eyeshadow. i don't understand how you…shade it? how do people do that, make it look some elaborate, pristinely contoured canvas of brown & gold? seriously, how?
ReplyDeletelipstick.
ReplyDeleteKeeping my face from looking like an oil slick! Shiny for days
ReplyDeleteMy dry skin, especially in the winter!
ReplyDeletemy greatest beauty issue lately is false eyelashes! I just can't get it down. But I'm determined! I'll keep practicing.
ReplyDeleteWhy are my eyebrows two different shapes? And how do I correct it? That's my biggest dilemma.
ReplyDeleteI'm a red head and my biggest problem is finding a lipstick color. Everything seems to look ridiculous on me.
ReplyDeleteYay! My eyebrows are in need of some help. Oy!
ReplyDeleteMy beauty issue is that despite extensive experimenting, I have no idea what colors are right for me. Stupid rosacea!
ReplyDeleteThe extremely dark circles under my eyes, I cannot, for my life get them to be hidden or go away or apply any makeup that makes them look less baggy.
ReplyDeleteMy beauty problem is definelty eyeliner. I try. Oh do I try! It's either way to smudgey and dark or barely noticeable. Oh and when I try a sexy winged eye I look like I just put on the red light. Haha I need help! Heeeeellllpp meeee!
DeleteI have a giant list of things I do not know how to do within makeup. I hate to say everything for my comment so I'll go with concealer for under eyes because I would love to learn how to do that (especially as a tired mama).
ReplyDeleteI can't ever find the right foundation. I've tried everything! Cheap drug store foundation, Bare Minerals (which did wonders on my skin for a few years and then.. nothing), Benefit, and more recently Tarte. UGH. Giving up forever.
ReplyDelete....except I'm a slave to Sephora and Ulta so, no, I'm never giving up. I WILL find the perfect foundation someday!
My biggest beauty dilemma is foundation and finding one that matches. They all seem to be to light or too dark. I certainly could use professional help with my foundation color.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is my eyebrows so this is perfect! I've never done anything to them and have always wanted to but never knew what to do/didn't trust anyone enough to do them!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree! My biggest beauty dilemma is the blush, bronzer, contouring issue. Do I use one? All? And where is each supposed to go?
ReplyDeleteI'm just going to say it... biggest beauty dilemma is my mustache, or what real ladies call their "upper lip"
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is eyeliner. I can't figure it out! How thick? Is it always needed? It's never even!
ReplyDeletelets get serious the first thing anyone notices is your face...and i have the hardest time getting the right color foundation with the right finish and the right weight and what the heck type of brush are you even supposed to use? big round? stippling? flat foundation? so confusing. i just want flawless skin, alright? too much to ask!?
ReplyDeleteGetting makeup to stay on all day and the mystery that is eyeshadow.
ReplyDeleteFinding a foundation that doesn't sit on top of your skin in splotches all powdery. Ends up making my face look worse than when I started!
ReplyDeleteBy the way - total insparation to go get my brows done at Benefit!
Tash www.1brokegirl-tash.blogspot.com
Covering up my never-to-leave-me adult acne.
ReplyDeleteRight now my biggest beauty dilemma is dealing with postpartum hair loss and regrowth. Bald spots mixed with short baby hair is the worst!
ReplyDeletefo'sho brows. SOS.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure out how to do that cool winged eyeliner trick thing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, does it count if I'm in Chicago? We have many a Benefit here. I'd say my biggest dilemma is still brows. I'm a redhead so finding the right color is hard!
ReplyDeleteMy hair. Holy moly, there's so much of it! And requires so much effort to tame!
ReplyDeleteMy under-eye circles. They depress me.
ReplyDeleteLovely giveaway! I'd have to say my Achilles heel when it comes to makeup is primer, concealer, and foundation. I honestly don't even know how the three are different or where to even start with them. My splotchy, blemished face needs help!
ReplyDeleteHow fun would this be! The bane of my existence are undereye circles. The worst! I am constantly trying different ways to cover them up!
ReplyDeleteWhen will I be able to find a foundation that doesn't a) make my skin oily, b) cause my skin to break out, and c) not look like it is caked on? That's my beauty dilemma!
ReplyDeletemy brows! I have conquered a bold lip and even made a shoddy attempt at contouring, but my mousy brows have never received even a zot of attention and I don't know how to rectify this - help!?
ReplyDeleteMy beauty dilemma would have to be everything. I just sort of wing it and hope it works. But if I had to pick one thing it'd be my eyebrows. I never know what to do with them because they like to hide behind my glasses and because I don't know what I am doing, I just don't do anything. Though I am almost 100% that if I did something or knew what I was doing then they could really help make my look pop!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my brows! I can never get both of them to look the same. One will be perfect, while the other looks like my four year old niece drew it on with some sharpie. Come to think of it, the same goes for eyeliner...
ReplyDeletethis is super awesome! seems like you had a fab time :-)
ReplyDeletemine is my eyebrows, I should never had touched them! LOL.
i am currently growing them out, so i'll leave them in case I win!
My eyebrows! I have to fill in so much of them because half of them have turned blonde! You know how your brows are not expected to look like twins, but more like sisters? Well mine are more like distant cousins! I am having hard time trying to make them look similar.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty blunder is my oily skin! I feel like I look like an oil spill by 8:00 in the morning (I get to work at 7:00). I could use any help!
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow! The right technique to apply it, are slight sparkles ok for an almost 30 year old? How do I make my eyes look bigger? Thanks, I would love to win! I have a great group of young Jersey moms who would love a well deserved pampered night in the city.
ReplyDeleteeyeshadow! i love my eyes but seem to have trouble applying any sort of color to them. is it the shape? are they too sunk in? help! i'd love to have some fun with smoky eyes and the like!
ReplyDeleteLipstick! I would love to wear something bold and pretty but every time I do I feel like a clown! I end up sticking to aquaphor and sometimes some light gloss to dress myself up. I would love to feel like an actual grown up and wear a pretty lipstick one of these days!
ReplyDeletegrey hair...and brows! never know WHAT to do with them!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI would say keeping my eyebrows tamed..alumni of unibrows unite!
My biggest beauty dilemma is eye makeup. I have terrible allergies in my eyes, which makes it difficult to wear any eye makeup, which always makes me feel naked, even if I have makeup on the rest of my face.
ReplyDeleteHow do I wear lipstick!??!?! Do I need lip liner? Do you put gloss ON TOP of lipstick? Do I wear other make up when wearing lipstick? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!
ReplyDeleteEye shadow is my beauty question mark. I have the kind of eyelid where the entire lid is always visible (not sure how to describe that), but I cannot figure out how much I should wear, where it should go, can I do a smoky eye??
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness my hair is my biggest problem. But eye shadow is tricky too!
ReplyDeleteBrows! Lipstick! Eye shadow! Pretty much all of the things. This would be fun! You and your friends look great.
ReplyDeleteI think my eyes are my best asset but they also give me the most problems because I wear glasses. I feel pretty good about my eye makeup, then I put on my glasses and the impact is gone! How on earth do you do pretty eye makeup that doesn't totally disappear the moment the glasses go on?! Blind girl problems I guess...
ReplyDeleteBrows are my biggest dilemma. How to shape, contour, pluck, etc...
ReplyDeleteAh eye make up for me is the worst. I was born blind out of one eye so when I attempt it, I look like a 5 year old who got into mom's make up.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is eyes! I've pretty much given up and just stick to a little liner (poorly done) and mascara. You have really inspired me to work bigger brows! I love it.
ReplyDeleteHair! Show me how to make it curly and floofy and not the sad flat I got now.
ReplyDeleteFoundation! I never learned the "how-to"s of it when I was learning the rules of makeup at 14. Somehow it was skipped over. In 2014 I plan to master the rules of it -- powder/liquid/blending/matching/etc. I'll make up for lost time, surely.
ReplyDeleteEyeliner!!- How do you use it?! I feel like I should hang out with a bunch of 13 year old girls as I missed the boat on experimenting with eyeliner. What's the best way to draw it on? How do you do a cat eye? A vintage eye? What's the best way to put it on my waterline. HELP!!
ReplyDeleteFor sure it's the whole foundation, BB cream, CC cream dilemma which has only gotten more confusing now that I life in FL and spend most of the year sweating!
ReplyDeleteFoundation for sure! Always makes my skin look flaky and weird - I've basically given up.
ReplyDeletefoundation. I am convinced I am doing it wrong. well lets be honest. Its the whole face thing- moisturizer, foundation, blush, etc. Plus I am pretty sure my college roommate is in your picture! Jennie!
ReplyDeleteEyeliner. Seriously I am the worst! I feel like I am still in High school about to perform my indoor color guard routine, and afraid about poking my eye out every time! Don't even get me started on trying to do the Cat thing.. it's a disaster.
ReplyDeleteOh wow - I feel like I have multiple beauty dilemmas: eyeliner (seriously how the heck), foundation (I've just given up using it at all anymore), lipstick (do I accentuate my lips or my eyes or BOTH?) - ha! I've been growing out my eyebrows for 6+ months now and am still trying to figure out the shape and how thick/dark I want them, yowza. I'm sort of obsessed (read: EXTREMELY obsessed) with my eyebrows, my entire group of friends and family make fun of me all of the time but I'm thoroughly convinced they are just jealous. Eyebrows for the win.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this one! My biggest struggle with makeup is my eyeshadow. I've never been able to get a smokey eye right and have a hard time getting anything other than a basic neutral to work well.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like so much fun! Concealer...I don't understand how to apply it, if I need it, etc. I never use it, but I feel like perhaps I should and people are actually whispering about how tired I look.
ReplyDeleteFoundation, for sure. I never want you to be able to *see* that I'm wearing face makeup, but I'm definitely still buying all the wrong brands because any time I put it on, it's all cake face-y and nobody has time for that. So, for self-preservation purposes, I've resorted to not wearing any. What's the secret brand?!
ReplyDeleteBeauty rut! (does that count as a dilemma??) I could put on my same make-up in my sleep; I'm so stuck in doing the same thing, using the same colors, etc. The results could probably be better if I got a little more adventurous. Also, my mascara always falls and smears. I'm seriously contemplating the false lashes route.
ReplyDeleteAnything outside of mascara and concealer baffles me! (I'll pat myself on the back for at least having those two squared away.)
ReplyDeleteBlush/bronze
ReplyDeleteMy acne! (Hey, gotta be honest, right?) And eyeliner confuses me so much - waterline? Dotting? Connect the dots? Too much for me, honestly.
ReplyDeleteContouring. I've heard it can work wonders, but it is far beyond my abilities.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand bronzer. I'm super pale, and if I experiment with bronzer I look like I dove face-first into a pile of shiny dirt.
ReplyDeleteBiggest struggle: covering up my psoriasis! What foundation do I use? What concealer? How do I do it so I don't look like a dry, cakey mess?!?! Also how in the world do you contour without looking like you're getting ready for a football game?? And what is up with the highlighting under your eyes...are you supposed to highlight or use concealer? Lastly, how do you make your cat eye even on both eyes?!?! Whenever I want to do a cat eye, I have to start my makeup an hour earlier than usual and by the time I'm done, I have just BARELY a flick on both eyes and my skin around my eyes are all raw and red from all the failed attempts....sigh....
ReplyDeleteMy lashes! I loved the single lash fancy extensions I got for my wedding, but we're on a dental school student budget so those are out, and when I wear falsies I look like I belong on a street corner and not in a good way
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm lost beyond mascara to be honest. That whole contouring thing seems magical, but I don't even know where to start. I need a drag queen guardian angel or a Benefit party! Here's hoping! Have a merry, merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteEye shadow! I am always baffled as to which colors to choose, and when I finally find a palette that suits my skin, hair and eye color, the questions remain: where do I put which color?; what is appropriate for day and evening wear?; how do I make my eyes look bigger, rather than smaller?; etc. Looks like you had a wonderful, relaxing time. Btw, you look lovely as usual. (:
ReplyDeleteEyeliner. Def eyeliner.
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow. Blending, smoky eye, liner, etc etc. Oh and also maybe contouring. I've always wanted to learn how to make my cheek bones look like I have them.
ReplyDeleteI would actually say my brows are my biggest problem area. They are curly! So growing them out isn't really an option. I have to fill them in each day and I'm not great at it. A little tutorial from a benebabe would be amaze! I also get very confused when I try to contour my round face. I think I just end up looking like I have orange slapped around my cheeks. I try to blend it out but I still come off looking slightly oompa loompa. :) Pick me!
ReplyDeleteMaskcara wrote about your issue recently. I know what you mean about contouring!

I don't live next to a Benefit, but I wish I could find a foundation that didn't look like I was wearing make-up up close. Is that even possible? Probably not.
The one time I remember putting on foundation someone at the school bus stop told me it was wrong so I never tried it again. I've had people put it on me before, but it never seems to look right, I almost always think I look washed out and not like myself. I tend to have a really basic routine when it comes to putting on make-up, I just started wearing eyeliner this last year and I'm 35 for goodness sake. I'm so behind on this sort of thing. I need someone who can help me find the right shades of things and be patient. I've already decided that 2014 is the year I focus on being more feminine so this would be the perfect way to kick this off.
ReplyDeletei love this! my biggest beauty dilemma is that by the end of the day, my eyelashes are straight and look like i've never put mascara on. i don't know if i need to finally figure out how to use an eyelash curler and get better mascara or if i just have lame eyelashes.
ReplyDeletelipstick! i don't know how to wear it without feeling like a clown. help!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my biggest beauty dilemma is lipstick. I want it and I love it on other people, but I totally look like a clown when I wear it. What to do!
ReplyDeleteEyeliner. I always look like a sad clown when I wear it, but without it I looked really tired!?!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma. . . is basically wearing makeup at all! Ha. With a two year old running around, I really just don't bother as often as I should anymore. But if I had to choose just one, I think it would be foundation. I've been on the hunt for something that doesn't break my face out or feel like I'm wearing an oily mask for years now and have had no luck. I have picky skin, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have problems with my eyebrows! I feel they are too short, but have never used a brow pencil. I need some serious help.

ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is finding a good eye make up routine. I unfortunately have one eyelid that is a tiny bit droopier than the other and would love to learn some tricks to even things out a little. It's minor, but I know it's there and it drives me crazy! Lets just say, I take a lot of pictures with sunglasses on ;)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest beauty dilemma is most definitely that darn liquid eyeliner! I guess I don't have the most steady hand in the world because the lines are never straight! And consistency between one eye and the next...oh that's a whole different story! It's a struggle ;) Thanks Natalie for this sweet giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh what a great giveaway, how exciting! My biggest beauty dilemma is definitely bronzer. I use a little pretty much every day but I don't know if I'm using it right (should I be contouring? am I doing it wrong?). I see people with bad bronzer all the time and I am terrified of being one of those people. So there you have it!
ReplyDeleteBiggest beauty dilemma: how many red lipsticks is too many?! Do I collect as many as possible in varying shades and formulas or stick with a signature red because Sephora's Really Red is *perfection*? And if signature is the right answer, is it really safe to stop searching or should I keep seeing if there is a more perfect perfect?! What is a girl to do...

ReplyDeleteIt's safe to say my biggest dilemma is lipstick. I can rock a gloss, get sassy with a stain or maybe a little wild with a balm. I just can't conquer a lipstick without it disappearing in the middle or melting outside the lines, leaving me with little kid cool-aid mouth (a real thing.)
ReplyDeleteObviously I meant Kool-Aid.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is my brows. I want to know how to maintain them, I tried once and looked like a CRAZY person who plucked after a few too many drinks. Anyway, I live in Portland, near several benefit counters and must admit, the prospect of knowing you are in Portland in a few days is pretty awesome. I mean I think you talked about it once....that crazy stalkerish not so stalkerish semi creepy feeling you get about some bloggers. Hmmm...Anyway that may or may not be me. HA! Now that the truth is out, I need to wax the crap out of these babies, STAT!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is wearing lipstick! I always feel like I'm playing dress up, even though I'm nearly 30. xo, Sarah
ReplyDeleteYes, lipstick for me too! What's the right color of red??
ReplyDeleteBrows. My daughter and I argue all the time about it. I prefer thin, she prefers thicker. I don't get plucking then coloring them in to make them thicker. But anything Benefit makes me swoon. The Benefit advent calendar this year was amazing..we fought daily over who would get the makeup inside for that day!
ReplyDeletei desperately want bigger lashes, but mascara makes them still not big enough, and i still can't figure how to put on fakies.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest dilemma is definitely my eyebrows, so this would be PERFECTION!!!
ReplyDeletean eyebrow party!!! the invitation for this party. . . oh the the invitation.
ReplyDeletedear loved ones,
come and get yer eyebrowns did.
love,
cortney
My biggest dilemma is maintaining brows, this sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteWell I live nowhere near this place, but wanted to tell you anyway that my biggest beauty dilemma relates back to washing the hair. I can never decide: to wash or not wash? That is the question.
ReplyDeleteWhat world would we live in without You've Got Mail? A terrible one indeed. I shudder to think of it. I'm going to the nut shop where it's fun.
eyeliner for sure! i mean do you line on the eyelashes or along it?
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow shading...is it light shadow on the inside or light shadow on the outside? These colors look really pretty by themselves but I shade them together and they end up looking like a brown sparkly mess. And don't get me started on smoky eyes. I've attempted them but I always end up looking like I lost in a bar fight. Oh, eyeshadow.
ReplyDeleteeye shadow! it's basically edward scissorhands or nothing. xo
ReplyDeleteIt used to be eyebrows, but I have accepted I can't do them by myself. CONTOURING is the worst for me. It can make my face look like Angelina Jolie! according to all the magazines, but when I try it I look like I've striped bronzer on my face. More tiger, less movie star.
ReplyDeleteSo... my biggest beauty dilemma right now is my brows. I'm growing them out and need guidance from the brow gods. PUHHLEEEASE!!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes dealing with adult acne count. My chin is always a war zone and I don't know the best way to cover it with out drawing more attention to it. Seems unfair to have zits as an adult.
ReplyDeleteI have the toughest time covering my under eye circles. I would love some pro help (and to host a Benefit party in DC!!)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love benefit! Blush or bronzer and countering and face shape and primer questions are all on my list! And I would LOVE to host a Benefit party in LA!
ReplyDeleteI'm horrible at doing my eye makeup! I can do a simple one layer of one color on the lids, but anything beyond that and it starts to get a little messy and zombie-ish ;)
ReplyDeletecontouring. the struggle is real. Chicago brow party, please!
ReplyDeleteHooray! I need this. Brows are one aspect of my routine I'm trying to teach myself, but I also struggle with the right foundation! Coverage without looking heavy, and matching my skin tone enough. Oh while also being affordable :/
ReplyDeleteMy brows definitely. They are very dark and thick and I never know how much I should wax/tweeze off.
