a few days before christmas, we packed up our bags and flew across the country to spend the holidays with family in oregon. there have been so many perfect moments this week, and so many imperfect too, like the pepper in our ham sauce on christmas morning. just the right amount of spice. we got to skype with my brother on his mission, huck's done a primo job eating all of grandpa's left over cashews from the nut mix, the egg nog is almost gone, and i've already raided my little brother's closet for perfectly beat up t-shirts twice. it was a real good christmas.
brandon is home in new york city now, back at work and attempting to keep the fridge stocked semi-healthfully on his own. as for the rest of us, our portland stay is open-ended. i'm writing a book? (what, have i mentioned that too much already?) and it is time for me to crank this puppy out. huck will be spoiled rotten by his grandparents while i turn nocturnal and lose myself inside all my thoughts on all sorts of silly things. it's going to be a different kind of january. i'm really looking forward to it.
so while all of my words are being used elsewhere, here is our christmas, eve and morning, in photos.

the blog will be cranking this month, even if even a little less wordy than usual.
(but it's almost done! this blog is about to get soooo wordy soon, you watch out).
tomorrow i'm posting my annual new years essay + word for the year, which i'm sure you are all thrilled about, haha, but it's coming anyway!
and i can't end this post without saying it again. i'm so grateful for this, and for you, and for all of the good people in my life who make everything so rich and spectacular.
happy christmas, harry. :)
looking forward to all the posts coming my way. wordy and not so wordy. i love the wordy ones though. :)
