hey it's an outfit post!
so i put this little number together one sunday morning last month for church and on the way there brandon asked me if i was planning to meet up with eddie vedder later. i caught a glimpse of myself in a window and, yeahhhh. but hey! let's watch empire records later? this dress is handmade in brooklyn and is the coolest thing i own. the clogs are made by my friend nina, who actually flies to sweden every year to oversee her inventory as it is manufactured. that's cool. the backpack was a gift from the designer and it makes me giddy with keri russell feelings every time i look at it. so while i wear this get up constantly in varying forms--these pieces are all in heavy rotation on mi cuerpo--i guess i'd never done it all at once, and maybe i shouldn't ever again.
i used to sit next to this one girl on the bus ride to middle school every day. she had this blue binder that said "kurt cobain is alive, he lives in my basement," in fat scribbly sharpie. which has nothing to do with anything. but couldn't you go for some lisa loeb right now?
that picture is really unflattering but it's staying there anyway, just in case they ever remake reality bites and a casting director happens upon my blog. i'm ready for it! now let's have a 1993-inspired disaffected youth photo!
naaaaaaailed it.
(could this not be our holbrook family grunge band album cover? please.)
(my socks even have a hole in them. come on.)
p.s.

ReplyDeleteI giggled more at those '90s pop culture references than I should have. You could definitely pass for a Pearl Jam roady's girlfriend. Love it! Also having felicity backpack envy.. Rad.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good disaffected youth shot, Even Huck looks dismayed!

i think you're one of the only people in the world who could ever pull this off.
ReplyDeleteperfect.

I love love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love that you mention lisa loeb, I just started watching gossip girl on Netflix and the episode I watched last night had her on it!! love the dress, btw ;)
ReplyDeleteMy family has this prize photo of Eddie Vedder holding my baby brother in the 90s (it's a long story). There's a teen girl standing in the background just clutching her heart, and I'm pretty sure you're her right now. It's amazing.
ReplyDeletethat is amazing.
DeleteI'm not from the US so maybe things are different, but are care of items not technically a sponsorship in a different form? Love the dress but not sure I would wear it the same way!
ReplyDeletehi Jennifer! you know, i'm not sure if i'm right about this or not (I could be doing it wrong, nothing would surprise me), but I believe a gift that you aren't required to wear in a post or mention somehow is just that, a gift, and pieces that are given in exchange for a post, or along with a fee for a post, with a written agreement that there will be a post to follow, are not a gift but a form of sponsorship. at least, that's how I've been operating, and many of the other bloggers I know as well. it's highly possible i'm doing that wrong, haha.
Deleteyou portland hipster you. i'm diggin it!
ReplyDeleteThe second I opened this post the song "Linger" by the Cranberries popped into my head. You do sort of look like you get getting ready for opening day of Lilith Fair but I mean that in the best way possible!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't this take you right back to high school!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!

Lisa Loeb! Also, I love this outfit. God, I miss the 90's (sometimes).
ReplyDeleteOh my! When you said the thing about Brandon asking you if you were meeting Eddie Vedder later, I couldnt help but think of my own hubby. He always has some really witty comment about my outfit choices. But guess what? I think it means, they think we are the coolest chicks ever! :) Oh and Lisa Loeb...yes.
ReplyDeletenever enough eddie vedder, reality bites or keri russell references.

i whole-heartedly approve of this. I grew up near Seattle in the late 80s-90s and, well, I live in Portland now. Let's just say that this outfit isn't too far from my daily momiform ;) xo

i was wondering the same! her outfit vs. huck's is very confusing, temp-wise.
Deleteyou are just too cool! :)
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow the clogs?
ReplyDeleteYou are my style icon my own "me in a dream." Love this so much.
ReplyDeleteThat outfit is so great. I have become much more grungy/earthy/whatever you wanna call it since moving back to my college town and working at a little outdoor apparel place. Birkenstocks and socks are my daily choice of footwear this winter. People hate, but it's fab.
ReplyDeletei want to wear this outfit when it's finally above negative temps here! also the plastic lid c/o nyc line SLAYED me. slayed as in buffy the vampire slayer? is that a 90s reference technically or more of a early 00s?
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I think this is sort of disastrous and horrible. But I have to applaud you for having the balls to wear it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHuck's outfit! Just so adorable! Why are kids' clothes always infinitely cuter than my own??! - Leith
